A Message From Our Principal
Springfield Families,
I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday break and Happy New Year that was filled with quality time with your family! It is with great excitement that I am joining the Springfield family. I look forward to getting to know you and your children this year. I have received a tremendous amount of support from Mr. Olinger, Mrs. Marsters, and Mrs. Baird, which has helped make this a smooth transition. As principal of Springfield, I look forward to spending time in classrooms, getting to know the children and teachers, and helping students strive to become lifelong learners. My goal is to provide a safe, family oriented environment where students will thrive academically and socially. I am committed to providing a high quality education for all children, in a loving environment. I am thrilled to be a Colt, and as always, please contact me if I can do anything for you or your child. I am so excited to be your Principal at Springfield Elementary and I look forward to a great rest of the year!
Sincerely,
Adam Fantone, Principal

10 HEALTHY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS FOR KIDS
The following tips are from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
- I will drink reduced-fat milk and water most days. Soda and fruit drinks are only for special times.
- I will take care of my skin by putting on sunscreen before I go outdoors on bright, sunny days. I will try to remember to stay in the shade whenever possible and wear a hat and sunglasses, especially when I'm playing sports.
- I will try to find a sport (like basketball or soccer) or an activity (like playing tag, jumping rope, dancing or riding my bike) that I like and do it at least three times a week!
- I will always wear a helmet when riding a bike, scooter or skateboard.
- I will wear my seat belt every time I get in a car. I'll sit in the back seat and use a booster seat until I am tall enough to use a lap/shoulder seat belt.
- I'll try to be friendly to kids who may have a hard time making friends by asking them to join activities such as sports or games.
- I will tell an adult about bullying that I see or hear about to do what I can help keep school safe for everyone.
- I will keep my personal info safe and not share my name, home address, school name or telephone number on the Internet. Also, I'll never send a picture of myself to someone I chat with on the computer without asking my parent if it is okay.
- I will try to talk with my parent or a trusted adult when I have a problem or feel stressed.
- I promise that I'll do my best to follow our household rules for video games and internet use.
HAVE A HEALTHY AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year! Time to set those New Year Reading Goals—its as easy as 1, 2, 3—its READ, READ, READ!
The library will continue to collect the following in 2020: GREETING CARDS (don’t throw any away from the holidays—we recycle them for bookmarks! We also need starburst candy, puzzles, and used or new books (hardcover or paperback!) Thanks so much ahead for your support!
Remember: READ, READ, READ! You got it!
Technology:
All students have been learning to Code with www.code.org/learn . Several classes will come back in January and finish their second rotation of coding. Fourth and Fifth graders will be using their knowledge of coding and digital citizenship to create either a Hero or a Comic in January. Kindergarten will be learning to keyboard and log into Typing Agent. First graders will be learning how to log into their Google Drive. Second grade will be learning how to make presentations. Third grade will come back to finishing a lesson on Digital Citizenship and creating a group Pledge. I wish everyone a very Happy New Year! I am looking forward to a healthy, technology filled second semester.
PE:
