SLPHS families,
The past two years have not been easy on educators, students or families. That said, at SLPHS, I feel a strong sense of partnership and community as we continue to work through challenges. This week is American Education Week – a national week of recognition. I want to thank our teachers and staff for their hard work and dedication to our students and thank our families for your continued trust and partnership as we build bright futures together.
In honor of the week, we will be sharing coffee and treats together as a staff on Friday morning. It’s a small thing – and it matters. If you feel compelled to send a note of appreciation to one of your student’s teachers, I know it will go a long way to keeping the teacher fire burning in their heart.
Many of you have reached out to share appreciation – and also to ask how you might help, specifically as you’ve heard about labor shortages across industries. While we aren’t seeing the same impacts as other school districts, we are experiencing a shortage of substitute teachers. If you are interested in supporting students and our schools by becoming a sub, you are welcome! You need a college degree, and we help with the rest. If this sounds interesting, find out more about becoming a substitute.
Thanksgiving is next Thursday, and I want to be sure all families are planning for a short school week. Students will have a school next Monday and Tuesday. There is no school Wednesday, November 24 through Friday, November 26. On Monday, November 29, we return for the final week of the Trimester 1. Please encourage your student(s) to work with their teachers and use Support and Extension Time (S.E.T.) effectively during the remaining days of trimester 1 to be sure they are making strong academic progress.
Thank you as always for your ongoing support and partnership. Stay warm, be well and let’s keep working together to build bright futures for our students and our community.
