Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
Friday, January 8, 2021
Message from the Principal:
We hope that despite all of the restrictions, everyone, at a minimum, was able to connect with family and friends virtually during the holiday break.
Woodbury Junior-Senior High School is set to resume hybrid instruction on Tuesday, January 19. The 2nd marking period is scheduled to end a short while after on Thursday, January 28. As we approach the 2nd half of the year, we are exploring the feasibility of adjusting our schedule to provide more in-person learning, while maintaining safe, socially-distanced classrooms. We are investigating collapsing Cohorts A & B into Cohort C. This would allow some students to go to school in-person four days per week (M-T & R-F).
To help us determine if this goal is feasible, we need to hear from parents as to which Cohort you would like your child to attend. Please navigate to this link to complete this brief survey. All parents should respond whether you wish to change cohorts or not:
The bell schedule will be altered slightly as well. We are adding a 10-minute homeroom to first period. This will push all subsequent periods back 10 minutes and will begin on January 29.

The District is providing free COVID-19 tests to anyone who may need one on January 13. It would be great if the entire school community afforded themselves of this opportunity.

Woodbury Student Embraces Leadership
Woodbury, NJ - Woodbury Heart & Soul is proud to announce Ella Davis as Co-Chair to its Community Task Force – Youth Development & Education Committee.
The Woodbury Community Task Force is a new, unique, and dynamic opportunity to connect residents to one another as well as to public leaders such as the Mayor, Superintendent, and Police Chief. In that spirit, the work of each committee will focus on action-based plans, exercises, initiatives, and projects to create tangible outcomes that will benefit Woodbury for years to come.
Ella, a seventh grader at Woodbury Junior-Senior High School, is stepping into a unique and groundbreaking place to share her voice, bring ideas to some of Woodbury’s most influential leaders, and to create a reality for her generation that is inclusive, forward-thinking, and lasting. Ella also represents the 21st Century After School program as a Blue Blazer, peer leader.
Woodbury Heart & Soul is two-year community development program serving as a catalyst for positive change among all residents, including those whose voices are often missing.
AVID 9 Class Makes Connections
With 2020 behind them, the students in the AVID 9 class are looking forward to all they want to accomplish this year and beyond, as represented in the vision boards they created. They also took a gallery walk to view their peers’ vision boards. While they did so, they not only shared positive feedback, but got to learn about and connect with each other even more. This is what an AVID family looks like!
Activities in Mrs. James' Class
Students in Regina James' class enjoyed a fun afternoon before our winter break. The students assembled hoagies, that were generously donated by Heritages Dairy Store -Woodbury location. Heritages put together amazing kits that included everything they needed for the sandwich along with chips and bottled water. The students followed detailed steps in preparing their sandwich. We worked together as a class regardless of everyone's location. A special thank you to Heritages for this excellent opportunity to work on an important life skill.
The students in Regina James' class continued the fun by decorating sugar cookies together. Mrs. James provided each student a cookie kit which included cookies, icing, and sprinkles. The students at home even participated with their families. It was great and everyone enjoyed this "sweet" activity in anticipation of the holidays. Celebrating the holidays the way they normally do, was very important to Mrs. James. She didn't want them missing out on the tradition of holiday fun, despite the pandemic.
