Friday Message from Dr. Glaze
Today was an incredible first day. Seeing the excitement on the faces of our students, teachers, and staff as they brought new life into the hallways and classrooms almost seemed surreal. All the smiles, laughter, and activity made my heart full.
We are excited and working hard to provide a more traditional school experience in a safe, caring, and respectful learning environment. We know we all must remain vigilant because of the fluid nature of COVID-19. Our 2021-22 COVID-19 Return to School Plan, posted on our website at www.tcsc.k12.in.us, outlines our proactive and layered mitigation approach to keeping our buildings open and kids safe in school.
The plan is designed to be flexible and as a district, we are prepared no matter what COVID might mean for the school year. In terms of face coverings, we are in alignment with the Tipton County Health Department, Indiana State Department of Health, and CDC’s recommendations that “all Hoosiers over the age of two wear masks in public indoor spaces including school buildings.” We strongly recommend and encourage the use of face coverings at school. At this time, however, this decision is ultimately up to students, staff, and their families to make. As a reminder, masking is required on school busses as per the federal mandate.
Last week, we conducted our annual two-day Summer Academy, where our administrators and educators spent two days together unpacking and prioritizing teaching academic standards, learning new techniques and best practices, and sharing ideas as part of their preparation for the new school year. This year’s academy was led by Scott Jaworski, our new Director of Student Achievement, and designed to help build knowledge, connections, camaraderie, and a strong team approach toward self-improvement and impacting learning outcomes in a systematic and data-driven way. Teachers are one of our most important assets and investing in their growth and development pays big dividends in student achievement and success.
Speaking of success, I would like to give a shout out to TCSC School Resource Officer, Dave Maddox, for completing the prestigious NASRO training conference. He will be able to use his training and networking resources to continue providing a safe and educational environment for students and staff on our campus.
I am pleased to share that all students enrolled at TCSC will receive free meals, including breakfast and lunch, through June 30, 2022, thanks to the extension of a special program through the United States Department of Agriculture. For families in need of textbook assistance, the application is available online for parents in PowerSchool. It is located under "General Forms.”
Congratulations to Band Director Matt Skiba, and the THS Marching Band for an incredible year culminating with an outstanding performance at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds today. You are among the best and represent Tipton well!
I'm very excited to step into my 2nd year of service as TCSC Superintendent. My first year was an incredible experience not just because of leading a school district through a health pandemic but because of how this community came together to support our students and staff maneuver through the many challenges and obstacles of a year like no other. This spoke volumes about this community and how it feels about its public school. I will continue to lead TCSC with pride, vision, and dedication to provide the best possible educational experience and achievement for the children of this community. #TiptonPride
