Cullins-Lake Pointe Parent Connect
Back to School
A Message from the Principal
I am Mary Pugh, and I'm privileged to introduce myself as the new principal of Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary School. It is such an honor to join Rockwall ISD and the wonderful staff here at Cullins. From the conversations I have had with staff and families, I can tell this is a community that is very proud of our school, and I look forward to joining in the work of building upon the rich traditions and excellence of Cullins-Lake Pointe.
This year begins my 18th year in education. In addition to being a school administrator, I have served as a teacher and school librarian. I am passionate about high levels of learning for all and strong character education as we love on and develop the whole child. I can't wait to meet all of our learners next week!
Speaking of next week...We are so excited to welcome our learners and families back to Cullins-Lake Pointe this fall. Our staff has been busy preparing for the new year for several weeks, and we are eagerly anticipating your child's arrival at campus on Monday, August 20th.
We have included some Back to School details in this newsletter for your reference. If you are new here, like me, we will be sending out this parent newsletter (CLP Parent Connect) weekly to keep you in the know about things happening on our campus!

First Day of School Procedures
The PTA is sponsoring a Boohoo/Yahoo Breakfast in the library. As soon as you drop your learner(s) off at their classroom, head to the library for some sustenance and fellowship.
Daily Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Doors open at 7:15 am.
Learners will eat breakfast in the cafe and/or wait in the gym until picked up by an educator.
Learners will go to class at 7:45 am.
Learners are tardy after 8:00 am.
If you are dropping off your child in the morning before school starts, all K-6th grade parents must drop learners off in the car loop on the south side of the building. Only pre-k parents with a front loop car tag are allowed to drop learners in the front loop.
Afternoon Dismissal: **New Procedure Included**
School ends at 3:00 pm.
All car riders will be picked up on the south side of the building.
This year we are making a distinction between WALKERS and WALK-UPS.
A walker is a child who walks home without a parent. These learners will be walked to the crosswalk by an educator.
A walk-up is a child whose parent walks-up to the school to pick them up, and they walk home together.
If you walk-up to pick up your child, you will be united with your child under the trees by the marquee. You will get a Walk-Up Sign from your child's teacher. Write your child's name on the sign. Please wait behind the cones (by grade level) under the trees by the marquee. (See photo below.) Your child's name will be called and your child will be brought out to you by an educator. For safety, do not crowd the door.
Please remember that we will be a little slow the first week to ensure all of our learners are getting home properly. We appreciate your patience. Additionally, we would appreciate any changes in transportation by 2:15 pm daily in order to get the message to the classroom educators in a timely manner.

Notes from the Nurse
Hello Cullins Cowboys Families!
I would like to introduce myself. I am your child’s School Nurse and I am new to CLP this year! I have been a Pediatric Nurse since 1997. I began my career at Children’s Medical Center in the Pediatric ICU where I worked until 2006. I completed a Master’s in Nursing and worked for 2 years as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner before deciding to take some time at home to raise my boys (one of which had a kidney condition which required medical attention –so I have a special place in my heart for families dealing with medical conditions of any type!) My heart led me to begin working as a Substitute Nurse in Rockwall ISD and ultimately to this position here at Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary! I am so thrilled to be here and to help to ensure the health of your children.
I have attached a handy “Back to School Checklist” – I highly encourage you to use it to assist you in remembering all items necessary in regard to your child’s health as we head into the new school year!
Please email or call me any time with questions or concerns! I will be at Meet the Teacher this week and encourage those with kids that have urgent medical needs (Epi Pens, Asthma rescue inhalers, Seizure Meds, Diabetic Supplies) to bring them (along with all signed documentation from your doctor) to me at that time. You may also email me to schedule a time to drop them by the clinic prior to school starting.
Thank you for entrusting me with you precious child! It is going to be a great year!
