Easley Weekly Update
Everything You Need to Know For The Coming Week
August 16th, 2020
A Note from the principal
It was wonderful seeing so many of you at the Meet the Teacher events last week. I very much wish we starting our first day of school tomorrow with all of us together in the building, but we know that isn't possible at the moment. Nonetheless, I am really excited for the start of another school year with the Easley community; it's going to be a great year!
Easley's Virtual Open House
You can view all of the Open House presentations on the Easley Website or by clicking the link in the email version of this message: Easley Virtual Open House Presentations
It is going to be important that students are able to login to their classroom Zooms at 7:45 AM tomorrow morning and we know there may be some technical challenges. The Easley website is a great resource for troubleshooting any login issues.
Getting to Class on Day One
Link to Easley website with very detailed information and troubleshooting information. I highly suggest taking a few moments and checking out. It may even be helpful to try and login tonight to ensure you are all set for tomorrow morning. Please note that you won't actually be able to get into Canvas tonight because the class platform doesn't go live until tomorrow but you should be able to get into Clever. This video is especially helpful in providing direction on how to login.
If you are still having difficulty logging in and the troubleshooting information is not helping, please contact your child's classroom teacher via Bloomz (preferably) or email and they will offer further assistance. If they are not able to help you please use our EASLEY SUPPORT REQUEST GOOGLE FORM and someone will get back to you.
Lastly, if you are having connectivity issues this week, try not to stress too terribly as this is to be expected and we will work diligently to get our our students up and running as soon as possible. This is an orientation week and teachers are spending a lot of time getting students acclimated to their new learning environment. A big part of that is learning how to login and get set up in Canvas.
Laptop Deployment
If you took a hotspot home and now realize you don't need it, please return it to the front desk as we have other families who don't have connectivity and really need the service.
This week we will be working on our second round of laptop deployment and will send out additional communication later in the week. Last week deployed over 250 laptops and will give out another 75 to our kindergarten students this week. We hope to get another delivery for the remaining students this week. If you have an immediate need for a device so your child can access remote learning, please let your classroom teacher know ASAP and we will do our best to get that to you very quickly.
Kindergarten Information
This week our kindergarten students are coming to the school on a staggered scheduled to meet the teachers, participate in kindergarten screening, and to pick-up their laptop. The classroom teacher will notify families on Wednesday of official class placements. The teachers will then hold a Kindergarten Parent Orientation session at 6:00 PM on Wednesday night via Zoom to make sure parents feel well informed and prepared for the first day of school on Thursday. The Zoom link will be sent out via email on Wednesday afternoon.
*****If you did not sign-up for a time to come on Monday or Tuesday, please contact Brooke.Farr@dpsnc.net and she will provide guidance as to next steps.*****
Daily Schedule
We will have a mix of live teaching sessions and independent work time on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. We are following the district guidelines for Wellness Wednesday. Friday's will be a combination of assessment, virtual field trips, celebrations, small group instruction, asynchronous learning, and one on one sessions with students as needed. You can view the schedule by clicking on this link. Please note that minor tweaks and changes will be made by your child's classroom teacher, especially in the areas of small group instruction.
