Meet Hubbs Staff!
This week, I interviewed Tou Lee! He has an office at Hubbs Center and works for a community organization called TRIO, Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC). TRIO, EOC helps adult students access college. Tou Lee is at Hubbs Center on Tuesday and Thursday and is willing to meet students online and in person. He can help adult students research and apply to colleges, complete the federal financial aid form (FAFSA), and explore career choices. Tou Lee enjoys working with different people, helping them enroll in college and resolving financial aid issues. He loves to hear about prior participants who completed college.
Tou Lee knows that TRIO works because he joined TRIO, Upward Bound program when he was a high school student at Central High School in St. Paul. TRIO, Upward Bound, helped him
enroll in college and earn his Bachelor degree from St. Olaf College.
Outside of work, Tou Lee likes to ice fish in the winter, and use his boat to fish in the summer.
His advice for new immigrants is not to be discouraged-even though English is not your first
language-just keep reading, writing, and speaking, English and eventually the language will
become natural.
Introduction to Small Business
Course Description
This course is designed to help students understand the basics of operating a small business. Students will write a business plan, research and design what it takes to start their own business. They will learn financial planning, marketing skills and gain knowledge of online sales. Students will also meet with small business owners from our community through field trips and guest speakers. In addition, learners will build customer service skills through operating the Hubbs bookstore.
Women Venture and Goodwill EasterSeals are partnering programs which will support students in their pursuit to small business ownership.
