Stay Sharp This Summer!
Read, Read, Read!
When the school year starts, students' reading levels will again be assessed. Children who read over the summer usually have little summer slide; in fact, they often show growth!
Practice Math Facts!
Please have your child practice math facts this summer:
- Mastery of facts up to 5+ 5 = 10 and 10 - 5 = 5 is critical for success next year.
- After those can be recalled quickly, focus on facts up to 10 + 10 = 20 and 20 - 10 = 10. Knowing these will give your child a leg up next year!
Ways to practice:
- Xtra Math, a basic facts app that tracks the addition and subtraction facts students know
- Other math fact apps that are on your child's iPad: Math Flashcards, Monster Math, Pet Bingo
- Playing board games with dice helps with addition
- Simply using addition and subtraction as the opportunities come up in in everyday activities
Thank you for helping to keep your child's math skills sharp!
