Fall Issue (September-October 2023)

Another school year has begun!

Students and Parents,

It is hard to imagine that we have been in school for several weeks now! Hope that everyone is working hard to turn in class work and checking on grades. Remember to login into Skyward or download the Skyward app for free to your phones. Also, keep in mind that at the nine weeks, grades will post to your high school transcript for colleges, employers, and military recruiters to see. In addition, reach out to your teachers now especially if you are behind so you can get caught up and get that credit for the class. Earning credits = graduating on time!

The time will be well spent when you are award the scholarship. No scholarship is too small. In the end they all add up.

Work-Study Programs...

Work-Study is a need-based form of Financial Aid that you earn through on or off-campus employment and receive in the form of a paycheck. The intent of the Work-Study Program is to encourage part-time employment and reduce the amount of loan debt incurred while attending college. Work-Study does so by paying a portion of your salary thus making it more advantageous for an employer to hire you. Lastly, any earnings made under work-study do not count against your aid eligibility when filling out the next year’s FAFSA or California Dream Act application.

College and Trade/Technical School Lunch Visits

Students at LHS have the opportunity to visit with college and career/vocational school representatives during lunch visits, college fairs, and information sessions held throughout the metroplex. Take time to visit these colleges; you may discover that you are better suited for a certain type of school setting after visiting with the college reps. Explore all types - small, large, public, private. Then, make a decision based on a well-informed exploration of all types of colleges and universities.

Lunch Visits: College representatives are available in the cafeteria or the College and Career Center (F207) during block lunch. Please click on our College information Newsletter to see who is coming to LHS this month.
