How do I host an Hour of Code?

First, Code.org has wonderful resources for you at https://hourofcode.com/us/how-to so be sure to check them out! You can also use the Hour of Code planning guide or our DLGWAEA planning template.

Or, you can follow the steps outlined in the video below:

Connect with local professionals to help students understand what coding and computer science jobs are like and get an extra pair of hands to help with your event. Code.org provides a list of volunteers that will join you face to face or remotely here (https://code.org/volunteer/local).

Choose an Hour of Code Activity

We picked out a few unplugged (or offline) and online activities we really like for 3-5 grade students and shared them below. You can also use Dash & Dot, Sphero, or Makey Makey if you already have them in your classroom or school.

You can find MANY more Hour of Code activities at https://hourofcode.com/us/learn.

We'll learn more about Iowa's Computer Science standards, share strategies for incorporating computer science and coding into core subjects and plan for next steps in your classroom and building. Please sign up for course #168479 and bring a team including administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers.
