Congratulations Anthony Castro - JCHS Ford Scholars Program Scholarship Recipient
Congratulations to Anthony Castro for receiving the Ford Scholars Program Scholarship. This is a amazing accomplishment.
The Ford Scholars Program is a highly selective scholarship that awards students from Oregon and Siskiyou County, California who are planning to complete a four-year degree at a college in their home state. The scholarship amount varies by student, providing 90% of unmet need, up to $40,000 a year.
The students selected have shown exceptional potential and motivation to succeed in college. They have also demonstrated care for their community, a strong work ethic, leadership potential, and an overall outstanding character.
District has Transitioned to ParentSquare
Junction City School District has transitioned to a new communications platform in an effort to improve how the district communicates with students, families staff and the surrounding community. The new platform is ParentSquare. We encourage you to download the app to help stay informed and get the latest news, posts and alerts.
CTE Program of Study
Junction City High School offers six different Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs of Study (POS) to choose from, Business, Computer Science, Culinary Arts, Graphic Design, Agricultural Sciences and Design and Manufacturing. In this edition of the Stoops' Scoop we will highlight the Computer Science Program of Study. As you can see below, Becci Buenau's program offers nine different courses at Foundational, Intermediate and Advanced levels. In Ms. Buenau's classes students learn technical skills that are highly sought after by the tech industry, and are some of the highest paying professions, even at the entry level. Ms. Buenau recently had students compete in Skills USA, and Kimber Bowser, a 10th grader at JCHS qualified for the national contest this summer. Kimber won in Website Design, and will compete at the national level with her partner John Boone, 9th grade, in Atlanta, Georgia at the National Leadership & Skills Conference June 19th-23rd. Congratulations and good luck at Nationals!!
JCHS CTE Programs of Study Have Lots to Offer
Junction City Schools still have several job opportunities available. You can find a list of openings on our website under Employment. We currently have 24 classified and licensed openings. Our country is still experiencing severe staffing shortages, this is certainly the case for Junction City Schools as well. Everyday is a challenge to keep our doors open due to staffing shortages and limited availability of substitutes. JCSD is transitioning to a contracted substitute service, EduStaff. If you or someone you know is interested in part time work in our schools as a substitute, please register online at EduStaff.org.

Long-Range Facility Planning
Our Long-Range Facility Planning (LRFP) Committee is seeking feedback from staff and families. The Junction City School District has conducted physical assessments and planning discussions regarding our campuses. However, the District would like broader community input before making any decisions. Our LRFP Committee will hold a Community Forum at Laurel Elementary School on Thursday, May 18th. This will be a great opportunity to see the work the committee has done to this point, and an opportunity for you to ask questions and provide the school board and LRFP committee feedback for moving forward.
Junction City School District contracts school bus services with First Student. There is a major shortage of bus drivers. If you are interested please follow this link to learn more.
