Here's What's on Top at Buena Vista - March 8, 2023
Note from the Principal
Greetings Buena Vista Parents,
I hope you are all doing well. Happy International Women's Day! During the month of March our teachers will be highlighting all of the great contributions made by women in our country. Just a reminder that this Friday is a regular school day at Buena Vista, Walnut Creek Intermediate has a shortened day. Here is what is on top at BV!
Report Cards
Report cards will be available to view in the Parent Portal on Friday, March 10th. Please take a moment to review the instruction link below.
Read Across America
We continue to celebrate National Read Across America. Thank you to all of our guest readers from our community who are who are coming through and reading favorite stories to our students. I love seeing all of the spirit and enthusiasm towards reading. Please see our spirit days below.
Book Fair and Lunch in the Breezeway
At the end of the month we will be having our Scholastic Book Fair (March 27-31). This year our PTA is sponsoring students, so each student in our school will have the opportunity to select a book that they would like to purchase with "book bucks" from the book fair AND they will get a school pencil as well. During book fair week, we will have our Lunch in the Breezeway and bring a "Grand Person to Lunch" event. A schedule will follow next week, but students will be able to invite a special adult (Grandparent, parent, uncle, aunt, etc) to come on their grade's assigned day and eat lunch with them. If they'd like they can visit the Book Fair when they are done eating. Students and parents were very excited about this last year and I am glad we can do it again. Here is the RSVP form for Lunch in the Breezeway!
A big THANK YOU to PTA for their very generous donation to buy each student a Buena Vista their own self selected book! This is amazing!!!!
It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog!
Respectfully,

Turn Up The Heat 2023—The Results Are In!
February might be a short month, but there was so much happening across all eight of our schools, including our annual Turn Up The Heat campaign to increase participation. There are two important results to report:
1. We raised $118,597 in just a few days over the Turn Up The Heat campaign—AMAZING work from our community!
2. Indian Valley increased their WCEF participation by 22% and, in addition to bragging rights, have won a popsicle party for the entire school. Congratulations, Hawks!
Thanks to our amazing donors, every month we get closer to our $1.4M goal! As of March 2, WCEF has raised $1,165,099—83% of our goal! Key programs like TK-5 science lab, electives like French at WCI and Mandarin at Tice, and the Wellness Center at Las Lomas are available to our public-school students because of you. Thank you to all who have given!
If you haven’t donated yet, there is still time. Donate today. Work for a company that will match your donation? Click here to learn more about matching.
Save the Date for our Fall Recycling Event!
On Saturday, March 25, swing by the WCSD parking lot from 10am-4pm to recycle your e-waste and get old documents (securely!) shredded. You’ll be supporting our schools while cleaning up around your home! Recycling fees are based on size and shredding is $12 per banker’s box. A percentage of fees collected come back to WCEF.
