Volume 25 Issue 11
Finley Farms Community,
This week marks the beginning of the 2nd Quarter for the 2020-2021 school year. Reflecting on the 1st Quarter of our year, your partnership and support as we moved through three different learning models in the span of nine weeks was imperative to our successful beginning. In spite of challenges due to the shifts in learning models, we were able to capitalize on our opportunity when we reopened our campus for in-person learning. Over the final four weeks of the 1st Quarter the staff partnered with students to set the foundation for campus behavior and safety expectations, expand the classroom community first fostered virtually, and continued to engage in academic activities. The FFE staff and I are grateful for your support and amazed by the perseverance shown by our students as they adapted to each new circumstance.
As we enter the 2nd Quarter with consistent in-person learning, students and staff will partner together to continue with their focus on priority standards in all academic areas. Being cognizant of how the 2019-2020 school year ended, our staff continue to utilize our curriculum resources to implement a specific scope and sequence of academic instruction. On our Early Release Wednesdays teachers collaborate as they share and review effective instructional practices, build common formative assessments aligned to priority standards being taught, analyze student present levels in comparison to expected level of performance, and develop plans to address student intervention and enrichment needs.
In addition to being full speed ahead on the academic side of things, we are also excited to progress to a normal "feel" around school now that the initial phase of reopening is complete. This quarter I will be meeting with each grade level to review our RISE expectations as we continue to develop a shared understanding of our positive behavior intervention support system consistent preschool through 6th grade. Students will also begin to notice we will be opening up extracurricular opportunities similar to years past as we host Student Council Meetings, start Running Club, host Chess Club, and much more.
While we work towards a semblance of regular school with activities, it is imperative we remain steadfast in our health and safety mitigation strategies as a school community. Staff will continue to reinforce best practices with students and our building maintenance crew will complete extensive cleaning procedures on a regular basis. As a community, your support is essential through your action to complete the daily health screening for your child, send him/her to school with an appropriate face covering, and transparently communicate with our health office should an illness arise. I thank you on behalf of the Finley Farms Elementary staff for being supportive of our guidelines and expectations in order to do our best to keep everyone on our campus and in our community healthy and safe.
Please continue reading through each section of this Falcon Flyer for pertinent information as we partner together to support our students.

Report Cards - 1st Quarter
While you are accessing the GPS Infinite Campus Parent Portal to view your child's report card, we kindly ask that you complete the Annual Update if you have not already done so. It is extremely important that your student's contact information is up-to-date in Infinite Campus to ensure that the district and our school can reach you by email and telephone.
Gilbert Public Schools has identified November 5 & 6 as the new dates for our annual Parent-Teacher Conferences. We are excited to partner with you as we host imperative discussions regarding student progress and present levels. Teachers use this opportunity to discuss your child's progress in all areas as we look to continue our work as a team in order for each child to meet their full potential academically, behaviorally, and socially.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be making adjustments in order to implement health and safety mitigation strategies. This year we will again utilize the SignUp Genius platform for parents to elect their preferred time slot available and will then have the option to attend in-person, on the phone, or via WebEx. The SignUp Genius links will be shared next week for families to then select from.
Please note, this year we are unable to offer child care. For families choosing to attend in-person, we kindly ask that only the parent(s) attend (and student if applicable) along with wearing a face covering while on our campus.
We look forward to collaborating with you!
