Sonography Newsletter-November 2015

During the month of November, we take the time to reflect on everything that we are thankful for. At Bryan College of Health Sciences, the sonography faculty is thankful for our wonderful students and co-workers. Some students are approaching graduation while other students are finishing up their first semester in the sonography program. It is a busy time of year for all and we wish you luck as we head towards the end of the fall semester.

DMS Capstone Poster Presentations

Thank you to everybody that stopped by the DMS capstone poster presentations. The students did a fantastic job and enjoyed sharing their intriguing case studies! They are looking forward to graduating in December and working as diagnostic medical sonographers.

New PACS System

With a rough start in the fall semester, it was time to explore our options and find a new, reasonably priced PACS system that could be easily accessible by all sonography students and faculty.

We currently have a free system that has been utilized over a long period of time. Over the summer and into the fall semester of 2015, the current system decided to "crash" on us. With the help of Jawad Q. and hospital IT staff, we luckily got the system up and running. It was then decided that a new system was in definite need. After numerous phone calls, meetings, and demonstrations, we finally found a new system (Studycast) that sufficiently met our needs and that also had some added features. This is a web-based storage system and sonography students and faculty will be able to access the system via a web link (designated usernames and passwords will be provided). With that being said, students will be able to review their scanning assignments from home-this is a great benefit!

We are currently in the process of getting Studycast set up and ready to go. We are extremely excited to implement this system starting in the Spring of 2016 semester.

Preceptor Corner

We are coming to the end of our fall semester! The last day for sonography clinical rotations will be on December 18, 2015. Many students will be done before the 18th. Please take a moment to evaluate a student you have been with and submit the evaluation in Trajecsys or fax a paper submission to Cindy Blake. Evaluations are an important part of the students’ learning. We appreciate your time and thank you for providing them with feedback.
