A Message From Mrs. Bender
Below is the message from Mr. Luebker sent to all famlies on October 29th regarding the calendar changes.
The OSD Reopening Plan has allowed us to start the year with success in many areas including our current face-to-face learning model. We also continue to learn, discuss, and explore ways to improve. One area that we have been exploring is to have an opportunity to implement our remote teaching schedule, find additional preparation time for our teaching staff, and provide additional deep cleaning opportunities.
With input from our entire staff, Administration, and Board of Education, we will be implementing remote learning on the following dates:
- Monday, November 23
- Tuesday, November 24
- Friday, January 22
- Friday, March 5
- Friday, April 23
We know this schedule change will impact our families, however, we hope you understand the balance we are trying to create.
Additional information:
- Kids Klub will be open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. All Kids Klub participants will be at OIS.
- There will be a survey from food service coming to you soon regarding breakfast and lunch availability.
- Some students with IEP’s will be contacted by their child’s case manager for in-person instruction on these days.
- Attendance will be taken for these remote days. All K-12 students are expected to actively participate.
- Devices will be going home with K-12 students on Friday, November 20th.
OIS Remote Learning Schedule for November 23rd and 24th
Help us slow the spread of COVID-19:
- Stay home when ill.
- Wear a face covering when in public if physically able.
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, tables, etc.
- Limit unnecessary travel, events, or large gatherings.
Schoology and Learning from HOME
The goal of having children attend school in person- which is how they learn best- is our top priority. Schools provide a stable and secure environment for developing social skills and peer relationships. Social interaction at this level is so important for the development of language, communication, social, emotional and interpersonal skills; however, we now have a way to keep the connection with your child if they are at home
(quarantined, ill, showing symptoms, etc...)! Schoology is way to keep the connection and LEARNING happening from home. Help us support them!
We have expectations in place to ensure your child is getting the daily content delivered from their core academic teachers. Below are the expectations for your child:
Login to Schoology daily
Attend all virtual meetings scheduled by your teacher (Morning Meeting, check-in with homeroom teacher, etc.)
Complete all assignments and turn in on time
Ask questions. Reach out to classroom teachers!
Failure to complete all daily activities will result in fewer opportunities, incomplete assignments, incomplete grades and most importantly, missed learning. Help us support them!
* If you need your family login information, please call the main office at OIS. We are happy to assist you!!
