The Fairview Connection
OCTOBER 21, 2022
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
I hope you have all had a good week and are ready to enjoy some fun with your children at tonight’s PTO Boo Bash! As a reminder, the event will run from 5:00-7:30 pm in our north parking lot and bus turnaround area outside of the school. See the information included in the newsletter below for more details! As mentioned last week, on Monday, October 31st, we will be enjoying Halloween festivities as a school community. We will hold our annual Halloween parade starting at 1:30 pm. Students will parade around the perimeter of the school (weather permitting) where parents are welcome to stand by and watch all of our students show off their costumes. Then our PTO room parents will be hosting Halloween parties in each of our classrooms for students to enjoy. Only the parents that have been assigned to help with the parties should plan to attend. In terms of our procedures for Halloween, many parents choose to take their child home during lunch to change into their costume. This is not required, as children can change into costumes in the bathroom after the lunch hour; however, if you would like to take your child home during the lunch hour, please follow these procedures.
If you will be taking your child home for lunch to change into their costume, please click here and fill out the form no later than Friday, October 28th at 1:00 pm.
All students going home for lunch will be dismissed from our bus turnaround doors at 11:35 am, so parents should meet their student(s) there. If you are not going to meet your student face-to-face please use our auto pick-up zone in our north parking lot (click here to view map). If you will be picking your student up in the pick-up lane please do not leave your vehicle and pull all the way up to the sign. No cars are allowed in our bus turnaround area.
When students return at 12:45 pm they should enter the school through our front entrance off of Isabella. Parents should drop their student(s) off in the front of the school and direct them to enter the school on their own. We will have staff members signing students back in upon their return so there isn’t a need for parents to enter the building with their student(s).
Thank you for your help in following the procedures above to ensure a safe and smooth day on Halloween. Looking ahead to next week, we are excited for our annual Fairview Follies performance to take place on Wednesday, October 26th. For students in the show, there is a dress rehearsal on Tuesday, October 25th after school. Please look for specific information related to what time your child should attend from Mrs. Happ and Ms. O’Donnell. On Wednesday, we will hold an all school assembly to give our students a chance to perform in front of their peers. Then we will have an evening performance for parents to enjoy starting at 6:00 pm. We look forward to watching our talented Fairview Falcons shine on the stage and are so thankful at the number of students who showed the courage required to perform this year!
As you head into the weekend, take a moment to watch this week’s installment of the Fairview Elementary School News presented by our Media Club. Thank you for reading this week’s newsletter below and have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
OCTOBER FALCONS READ! EVENT
Please contact Jessica Talbot (jtalbot@d57.org) or Cindy Buell (cbuell@d57.org) if you need assistance with language translation of this flyer.
PICTURE RETAKE DAY
REMEMBER THAT OCTOBER 24TH IS THE DEADLINE TO ORDER PICTURES IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE YOUR CHILD'S PICTURE RETAKEN.
HALLOWEEN COSTUMES
Students should not come to school on Monday morning in their costume. Students will have an opportunity to get into their costumes if they will be staying at school for the lunch/recess period. See the above information about Halloween procedures if you want to pick your student(s) up during the lunch/recess time to get into their costume.
We would like to remind parents that look-alike guns, knives, and other violent objects which may be included with a Halloween costume are not permitted in the school building. If your child’s costume includes items of this nature, please leave them at home for trick-or-treat activities or other family excursions. We must provide the children a consistent message regarding objects which are considered dangerous and it is confusing to allow these items in school for any reason. Students’ costumes should always be age appropriate.
DRESS FOR OUTDOOR RECESS
As the weather turns cooler, please make sure your children are dressed to go out for recess. Unless it is raining or the temperature /wind chill is too cold (15 degrees or below, real-feel temperature) the students will go out every day for recess. Please write your student’s last name on a tag in their coat as we already have a lot of lost coats and sweatshirts.
All students will go out with their class unless we have a doctor’s note limiting their participation. If a student has been ill and he/she is not feeling well enough to participate in all the activities of the school day, perhaps another day at home will insure a healthy return to school.
REMINDER FROM NURSE BRUNNING
This is a reminder that all medication, including cough drops or other over the counter medications require a Medication Form to be filled out by your child's health care provider. Medication is then to be brought to the health office by an adult so the nurse can administer accordingly. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Kelly Brunning, school nurse at kbrunning@d57.org.
