Dear Members of the Class of 2020 and Parents,
As always, I hope this message finds you all in the best of health and spirits. The end of the school year is fast approaching and, for the members of the Class of 2020, the long awaited conclusion of your time in K-12 schooling. Despite the distance between all of us, I want you to know that your teachers and administrators are committed to making this a memorable and special time for all of you. To that end, I am happy and excited to announce to you several ways in which we plan to honor the Class of 2020.
· Decision Day Celebration: On Monday, April 20, all Seniors will receive an invitation to a google doc that will ask you to share an appropriate picture or brief (no more than 10 seconds) video clip of the Senior either wearing a piece of apparel that highlights your college of choice, military branch, or workforce employment or holding a sign indicating your choice. These will be compiled into a video that will be shared with all students in recognition of May 1st which has become known nationally as Decision Day. We are excited to celebrate your decision with you and look forward to seeing all the wonderful ways in which you will carry what you have learned into the world beyond Methacton High School.
· Yard Signs: In recognition of the desire of the entire Methacton Community to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020, yard signs are being purchased for each member of the class. These yard signs will be individually delivered to the homes of the graduating Seniors sometime in June prior to the anticipated graduation day. We are grateful for the generous support of the Board of School Directors and the leadership of the MHS Post Prom for supporting this community-wide celebration. Any purchases of yard signs already made through the Post Prom fundraiser will be refunded in the coming weeks.
· Yearbooks: Jostens, the company that publishes the MHS yearbook, has generously agreed to direct mail the 2019-2020 yearbook to the homes of all students who purchased a book. This will take place around Memorial Day weekend. Also, the teachers and student staff of the yearbook will be working on a special spring supplement that will be mailed over the summer.
Please know that the decision regarding Prom was delayed until May 1 in anticipation of an announcement regarding social distancing guidelines. If the Prom has to be cancelled, additional information will be provided as will refunds.
As I mentioned in my last communication, we are committed to finding a way in which to hold a graduation ceremony on the Board approved date and time of June 11, 2020 at 4:00 PM. The final determination will be guided by the social distancing standards that are in place closer to the scheduled date. We are exploring multiple possibilities for a modified in-person ceremony in the event that a traditional ceremony in the stadium or gym is not possible.
Please also know that the district is undertaking plans to refund all money that was paid for events that have been cancelled such as the Senior Banquet as well as any remaining Aramark lunch balance for Seniors. We also recognize that t-shirts were to have been distributed at the Banquet and Senior Superlatives were to have been announced. Plans are underway to determine how best to still distribute and announce these.
I am grateful for your patience and support as we continue to modify plans and procedures in this age of social distancing. I am also abundantly proud of the work and accomplishments of the members of the Class of 2020 and the fortitude you have all shown in these trying times.
Yours in Warrior Pride,
Dr. Jason Sorgini
