Parenting During Virtual Learning - Reminders to our Falcon Adults
How can you help your Falcon learn from home?
1. Set up an appropriate learning space
Students should be up and out of bed in an environment that minimizes distractions as much as possible
2. Beware of "hot mics"
If your child is not on mute we can hear all background noise.
3. Let your child be the student
As an adult, please do not engage with the teacher or class during lessons. That is your child's job. If you have a question as a parent, reach out to the teacher via email or phone to inquire or request an appointment.
4. It's still a classroom
Reminder your child that it is always best practice to have their camera on in order to display they are engaged. Students can participate verbally in use the chat feature. And another friendly reminder for other family members to refrain from disrupting the class either visually or verbally.
Your child says they cannot connect?
- Check your Internet connection
- Does the iPad require an update? Look in Settings
- Call the office to set up an appointment for tech support
Keyboard Check Out - Full time Distance Learners ONLY
Please note that the keyboard is worth $40 and is not covered by your iPad insurance. You will be checking it out and it will need to be returned at the end of the year, undamaged, or a fine of $40 will incur.
Parent Empowerment Series with the Boys & Girls Club
Health & Safety Reminders
Some reminders:
- No deliveries will be accepted - This includes school supplies, personal items, and food deliveries
- Please call our office at 714-730-7573 if you have a question. Most questions can be answered via phone, and if not we will set you up with an appointment
- Masks are mandatory for all who enter campus
From Nutrition Services

Challenge Success
Challenge Success specifically selected a time of day (11 am PT/2 pm ET) that allows different time zones to participate. Lori Gottlieb (psychotherapist and The New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone) will keynote the event.
When you register it will ask about a donation, but there is NO obligation to donate in order to attend.
From our Falcon Library...
The Utt Library may be temporarily closed for checkout services, but thankfully, the OC Public Libraries are not!
The OCPL have opened safe, distancing services to their patrons. For students and parents who would prefer to have a physical book in hand, they may visit their local library for curbside pick-up or grab-and-go services! All you need is a library card/account to place a hold for book pick-up.
For those who are interested in obtaining a card, here is the link for the application: https://web.ocpl.org/n/LibraryCardApplication/#/
Those with a public library card not only have access to the physical library but the e-book collection as well, so I highly recommend.
2020-21 GATE Screening & Identification
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE): The Tustin Unified School District will screen and identify second- through eighth-grade students for GATE this school year. The screening includes a cognitive test (OLSAT or NNAT) which will be administered in person. Social distancing and paper quarantine guidelines will be followed to keep students and staff safe. Please click HERE for a GATE Screening Information Screencast. Here are the English Presentation Slides/Spanish Presentation Slides.
To register your child to screen for GATE, please complete the Consent to Test Form linked HERE by Thursday, October 29, at 4:30 p.m.
Students who have already been identified GATE in Tustin Unified maintain their eligibility and do not need to screen again.
