Mrs. Ashleigh's Foundations Class

To know God and make Him known

Welcome!

Hello Moms and Dads! I cannot believe that we are just a few days away from beginning our Classical Conversations program for this new 2016- 2017 year. I am truly excited to be tutoring this older class of children this year and getting to know them better as we go along.

Here is a little about me, My name is Ashleigh Chafton and this is my third year tutoring a foundations class. I am married to Joey Chafton, the pastor of Oak Grove and we have 4 girls, Julianna (7), Adalyn (5), Karalie (3) and Eliza (11 mos). We have lived in North Carolina for 10 years and both my husband and I are from Jacksonville, Florida. We claim North Carolina as home though and are happy that God has us here putting down our roots.

Please know that I am praying for each of your children, your families as well as for our class time together. Below are a few pieces of information to help our time together go well.

Classroom Rules

1. Listen to others

2. Choose wisely

3. Act kindly

4. Always do your best

Class Presentation Time

Each week the students will have 3 minutes to give a presentation to the class. We will work on a different skill for both the speakers and the listeners each week. I will send out weekly suggestions for this time but ultimately it is up to you and your student to decide what to present to the class. Because the students in our class are a little older than the other classes we will work on stretching out the length and buffing up the content of our presentations as our class time goes on. For the first week, we will be doing a get to know you presentation. Each student should bring in a brown lunch bag (provided at orientation) with 4 items that tell about themselves. All the items must fit in the bag and they can decorate it if they wish. Each week props, pictures or any visual aids are always welcome.

What to Bring

Our goal each week is to "train the brain to retain" and to do it as simply as possible. So I ask that each mom bring their Foundations Guide and something to take notes with. This way you can write down any useful information as we go over new material to help your time at home go smoothly that week.

We will have snack time each week after fine arts and before presentations. It is going to be up to you to provide this snack for your child. We will have all the other supplies your child will need for class time including pencils, crayons, markers, paper etc.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns.
