Updates From the Art Room
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am absolutely delighted that so many families have chosen to sign up their child/ren for the Artsonia Worldwide Online Art Gallery!
As soon as I receive your consent form/s I register your child/ren online. You should then receive an email from Artsonia asking you to confirm/finalize registration. I notice that I currently have many students 'pending' confirmation so, if you have not yet confirmed permission, please do so ASAP (Artsonia removes students from their records if confirmation is not received within 30 days).
If you did not receive the confirmation email from Artsonia please let me know so I can double-check your email is correct (please also check in Spam).
Thanking you

From the Art Room
Welcome back! During the course of the school year, if you wonder why you are not seeing your student’s artwork coming home on a regular basis, it is because, in the art room, each student creates a portfolio of their work which will be taken home half way through and at the end of the year. I find this approach preferable for various reasons. Firstly, with this system both the student and I can see and experience the development in their artwork over time. This not only supports my assessment process but more importantly assists the students in self-evaluation. Most assignments at each grade level are multi - step which involves returning to their project during several consecutive art lessons. This model helps to develop the student’s capacity to sustain interest and effort. My intention is that they come to the realization that the creative process is worthy of the commitment of time and energy and benefits greatly from review, reflection and revision. The focus of the art room will be quality over quantity and to create reflective practitioners who develop multiple perspectives and problem solving skills through the artistic process. In the younger grades I give the students’ artwork to their classroom teacher to send home as they see fit. The older students are expected to take responsibility for taking their artwork home and sharing it with their families. If your child feels that work is missing, be aware that I do hold back a selection of artwork for future display at Student Showcase or in public gallery exhibits.
I would also like to share some information regarding the Artsonia online art gallery. Eight years ago our school became a member of Artsonia.com (www.artsonia.com), the world’s largest online student art museum. Artsonia showcases artwork from thousands of schools around the world. Artsonia’s goals are to develop students’ pride and self-esteem, increase their multicultural understanding through art and involve parents and relatives in student education and accomplishments. To date, I have had nothing but highly positive feedback from participating families. As a teacher I am delighted with this response and excited to see the children’s artwork showcased so impressively.
If you did not take advantage of this opportunity last year, are new to the school or parents/guardians of a 1st grade student you may now enroll your child in this program (I am currently not opening this up to kindergarteners). In accordance with our school policy, I will need your permission before showcasing your child’s artwork on our school’s web gallery on Artsonia. Please look out for forms and information being sent home with your child/ren very soon!
***Last year brought its challenges all round and I notice that several families signed up for Artsonia but did not confirm registration following an email from Artsonia. I will be working to send out reminders to those families in the coming weeks.***
