Busy Week!
Last Monday, our staff participated in an Active Intruder Training coordinated by Mr. Chris Parker, Ms. Jenny Krattli and the sheriff's department. It was a very intense day of training, but very beneficial. You can be assured that our teachers and staff are as prepared as possible, should any need arise for such a response. We are blessed with a professional, caring staff who demonstrated the ability to remain calm and respond quickly in stressful situations.
On Tuesday, I hosted the Hook Center Regional Leadership Academy at MCE. All the participants were impressed with our building facilities and the evidence of learning occurring in our building. It is always fun to show off our school to other educators!
I am a member of this year-long academy. Our learning is focused on the improvement of leadership performance as articulated in Missouri’s Leader Standards and Quality Indicators. The Leadership Academy emphasizes the importance of building capacity of instructional practices correlated to high academic achievement for students.
On Thursday, I met with each grade level team during their planning time. we discussed how the needs of our students are being met, and what strategies we have in place to help any struggling students. We want to ensure that any gaps in learning are being caught early in the year so they may be addressed. I am pleased to report that our teachers are proactive, and they are working together to meet the needs of all the students in our building. We are implementing flexible grouping again this year. This means students rotate between the 3 teachers in their grade level, depending on their needs as demonstrated on on Theme & Chapter pretests in reading and math. Students who demonstrate mastery on the pretests are put in enrichment groups and challenged to take their learning to the next level during the unit of study.
Thank you for helping to make Grandparents Day a GREAT Day at MCE!
A special Thank You to our PTO! Thank you for helping to welcome and guide our guests to classrooms, and for serving wonderful cookies and punch to our students and guests. Than you to our PTO members for keeping the book fair open all day.
A HUGE THANK YOU to Beth Beattie and her FCCLA kids for making 1100 cookies for Grandparents Day at MCE!! They were so good and hope all the Grandparents enjoyed them!!
Be sure to check out our FaceBook Page for a look at all the fun we had that day!
Attendance is Important!
Attendance is a key factor in student achievement and success in education. The responsibility for regular attendance is the responsibility of the parent(s), guardian(s), and the student. Legal Refs: 167.031 – 111,171.151,RsMo.
Our percentage of attendance at MCE, during the month of August, was the lowest it has been in the last 8 years. It is important that you make school a priority, and ensure your child is at school on time and ready to learn each day.
Our school day begins at 7:50am with morning assembly.
Tardy Policy
It is important that students arrive at school on time. Students who have an excess of 5 tardies will have to serve detention after school to make up their lost time.
Tardiness
Tardiness is defined as not being in the classroom when class begins. PLEASE NOTE: When a student is tardy, a parent or guardian must come into the office to sign the child in before the student will be sent to class. A student is tardy if they are not in their classrooms by 8:00 am. Parents or guardians will be notified when tardiness is excessive. If a student is habitually tardy corrective measures may be taken.

Phone calls to change transportation routes are for Emergencies Only
If you need to make a change to your child’s normal routine you must send a note with your child in the morning. If it is an emergency, you must call and speak to a secretary before 2pm. Do not leave a message on the school answering service. The answering service is to report absences only, and it is not checked throughout the day.
We will not make any changes after 2pm. Our goal is to get every student safely to their correct destination at the end of each day. We need your help to make sure this happens.
