From the Principal, Cindy Dziadosz
We have had an excellent start to our school year. Teachers have spent time reviewing classroom and school procedures to ensure that learning time progresses in a smooth manner throughout the school year.
The safety of our students is a top priority of our school and district. If an emergency or disaster situation ever arises while your student is in school, we want you to be aware that our district and schools have made preparations to respond effectively. The Prairie View School District has an emergency plan that has been formulated to respond to large or small emergencies. This plan has been developed to ensure the safety and protection of all students.
This year new requirements have been made by our state to emergency/crisis drill procedures. Please note the following changes as your children may arrive home and tell you about these drills being a part of their school day. In the past fire drills were conducted monthly. These are now to be conducted 4 times per school year. Tornado drills are conducted 3 times per school year the same as in the past. A significant change has occurred in the requirement for the number of crisis drills, typically intruder drills, that occur during the school year. In the past 2-3 drills were required. These drills are now required monthly.
None of us likes to dwell on emergency situations. However, we believe that planning ahead will help alleviate additional stress and concern. Please be assured that our entire staff is trained to respond to emergencies in a calm and reassuring manner.
Our ultimate goal of providing a solid education which focuses on student growth is achieved through high expectations for quality teaching and student achievement. We are committed to providing a safe, positive learning environment to ensure academic success and solid character development.
Our teachers are always willing to communicate and be of help to you and your child. Please feel free to contact them by phone or their school email address. If you have a question or concern I urge you to communicate with the teacher first as they can best share information directly about your child.
We invite you to tour our district and school website, or follow us on Facebook and become familiar with our wonderful school. If I can be of assistance in any way please stop by or give me a call at 913-757-4417.
Did You Know?
- 5th Graders have the opportunity to participate in the Student Ambassador Program.
Fifth grade students are able to become student ambassadors through selection process in the fall. These students provide leadership and service to our school and community through various activities throughout the school year. Examples include: organization of Dr. Seuss activities, serving as guides for visitors to our school, leading the Pledge of Allegiance and school pledge in the morning, to name a few. Student Ambassadors are expected to be role models of good character for other students at school.

Repeat Information:
Arrival and Dismissal
School Dismisses at 3:30 PM. Students are dismissed in groups to assist in keeping students safe and more easily accounted for. Walkers and bike riders are dismissed first, car riders in the drive through lane are dismissed next and then those whose parents have parked in the south lot are dismissed. Once our school year is under way our dismissal process typically takes 3-5 minutes. Thank you in advance in realizing that 3-5 minutes is a small amount of time to assist us in keeping a child safe. Thank you for also knowing that what is most convenient for adults is not always the safest for all students.
If you plan to make changes to your child's dismissal routine please notify the school office (913-757-4417 Ext 7701) by phone or note prior to 3:00 PM. Although our students are very responsible we need to hear from you the parent, if there is a change in the way they will be going home. As we are often aware, sometimes children can get confused or forgetful. We ask that you notify the office for your child's safety and to help us insure we are helping them to get home in the manner that is their parents desire.
Please be advised that our state has a compulsory attendance law. The law is KSA 72-1113. The Kansas law states that students are truant when they have 3 consecutive unexcused absences, or 5 unexcused absences in a semester or 7 unexcused absences in a school year. When our student’s reach this number of absences, I am obligated by law to report the student’s name to the Linn District Attorney here and Linn county Division of Child and Family Services as truancy.
Tardies
Students arriving from 8:10 a.m.-9:45 will be counted tardy. Excessive tardies are unacceptable. Ten tardies
will equal a half day absence.
HALF DAY: If the student arrives after 9:45 or leaves before 2:15 it will be counted as a half day absent.
FULL DAY ABSENCE: If a student arrives after 2:15 they will be counted absent for the full day.
