Some indef info of Israel
Zionism
All throughout 19th and 20th centuries, the Jewish Nationalist movement, called Zionism, were formed by people who wanted to reestablish the state of Israel. In 1947, the UN sought to give the Arabs, along with the Israelis, their own individual states.
Tensions between other nations
Unfortunately, the establishment of Israel instantly provoked other Arab nations, 6 which invaded into Israel. This became first of many failed attempts of Israeli-Arab wars, where Israel came on top just within months.
Searching for Peace
In 1977, despite past aggressions, an Arab country was willing to try peace talks with Israel's establishment. President Anwar Sadat of Egypt wanted to have both nations recognize each other. U.S. President Jimmy Carter took advantage over this opportunity for peace, and invited Anwar and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin to Camp David to create a peace agreement. 30 years of aggression ended between Egypt and Israel in the signing of the Camp David Accords.
Closer to Today...
In 2000, peace slipped away when Yasir Arafat, leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization, was invited with new Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak by U.S. President Bill Clinton at Camp David to offer a peace plan. Arafat gave no agreement to both leaders offers, and in result peace talks froze. Palestinians were encouraged to start an intifada over the visit, and fights were started throughout Jerusalem and the West Bank.
