Congrats, Jazz Band One!
Franklin Jazz 1 also received a “Superior” rating a the recent NEIBA jazz festival, which is the highest rating a band can receive. Four of our band members were recognized with “Outstanding Solo Performance” awards: Phillip Perea, Julia Greenlee, Miles Lapointe, with Grant Lapointe being recognized as the Outstanding Soloist for the festival.
Congrats, Illumination!
Illumination is an auditioned show choir consisting of 60 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Franklin Middle School. The ensemble began rehearsals in September and competed at four show choir competitions in 2018. Mr. Griffin was very proud of the group’s dedication and perseverance over the season. The ensemble placed 6th place at the Great River Show Choir competition in Davenport, 5th place at the Washington Mo-Show Show Competition and 2nd place at the Marion Masquerade competition. With each performance, the group absorbed the critiques and improved their show considerably. At the fourth and final competition at Xavier High School, Illumination overcame a 4th place day-round score and after an outstanding evening performance was awarded the Grand Champion prize, including Best Choreography and the People’s Choice Award. The ensemble competed against Cedar Rapids Harding and Roosevelt, Oak Ridge Middle School’s Ovation, Cedar Rapids Regis, Cedar Rapids LaSalle, West Delaware and Mazzuchelli Middle School from Dubuque.
Illumination’s success in 2017-2018 is the foundation and beginning of a reputable choral music program at Franklin Middle School. If your child wants to become involved in the choral music program please contact Mr. Griffin at dgriffin@cr.k12.ia.us. There are also summer plans for the 21st Annual Summer Sing Performing Arts/Show Choir Camp at Franklin for students grades 6-9. If interested please contact Mr. Griffin
