Is Your 10th Grader Interested in Pursuing an IB Diploma?
10th grade students who are interested in pursuing the International Baccalaureate Diploma are meeting individually with Madame Rankin over the next few weeks to plan out their schedules. If you're the parent of a 10th grade student who has questions about the IB Diploma Programme, please e-mail RankinAM@midlandps.org to schedule a phone call, Google Meet, or meeting at MHS with Madame Rankin.
MHS Prom & Homecoming Closet
Did you spend time and money on a formal dress or nice men's wear that your child wore to a school dance, but those fancy clothes are now just sitting in a closet? If so the staff of the MHS Prom and Homecoming Closet would love to have your donations! Students who need an outfit to wear to prom this spring will be able to make an appointment to hopefully find the dress or other clothing of their dreams. We are especially in need of dresses in size 14 and up. Donations can be dropped off in the main office, or your student may bring items to room 348. Thank you for helping all of our Chemics to look and feel their best on the big day.
Black History Month
Each day on the announcements this month, MHS will celebrate Black History Month by recognizing different achievements, facts, and stories.
Why do we set aside months to recognize certain groups of people?
1. It celebrates diversity. A celebration goes beyond recognizing the achievements of Black Americans. It publicly honors these men and women. It tells their wonderful stories in a way that makes us realize how they have impacted our lives.
2. It unites us. Celebrating diversity and recognizing its beauty brings us together. It helps us learn about people from different cultures and backgrounds. It helps us understand how we are all connected.
3. It takes us beyond the history books. Typically in our history books and classes, we focus on the "major players". By setting aside months and days for certain groups of people, we have the opportunity to learn about other historical figures that have impacted our great country and the world.
4. It helps us understand the importance of OUR stories. Black History Month, among others, is about sharing and celebrating the stories of countless men and women who made a difference in our world. (www.chaseoaks.org)
MHS, like MPS, believes that diversity is a strength.
