AMCMS Principal's Office
What is going on in the Principal's Office?
My Challenge to You
I hope that each of you had a restful and rejuvenating Spring Break week! Amanda and I were able to get out of town and disappear from the world for a few days. It was quite nice. The lazy days of spring break were wonderful. We went camping for a few days at Mother Neff State Park and we were able to slow down a bit and just enjoy life at a different pace. It is nice to wake when the sun rises and go to sleep when it becomes so dark outside that all you can see are stars and the shadows of the horizon. I forget just how many stars there are in the sky each night. Do you ever look up anymore? You should.
As we return back to school next week we find ourselves in the final stretch. March is almost over. The first round of STAAR testing is coming next week and before we know it, we will see the second round of testing upon us. It seems like just yesterday we were building Rube Goldberg machines in the library and crossing the X on sheets of paper.
Time is going quick. Time can be a blessing and curse. In my opinion, time is our most precious resource. We have only 9 weeks of school remaining. We still have lots to accomplish in those 9 weeks, and we still have plenty of time to do what needs to be done but we have to use our time wisely.
Don't become overwhelmed by what you need to accomplish. I want you to stay focused on what matters... student learning.
Continue to design lessons that are engaging and focus on learning experiences, not packets of test prep and death by worksheet reviews. Our students always rise to our expectations. If we expect them to be engaged in learning they will do just that. If we expect them to complete worksheets they will do that as well. They will do what we expect of them, no more and no less. The question is, what learning experiences can you design that will lead them to the deeper learning we know students need to succeed? That is where you need to place your focus over the next 9 weeks.
Think. Achieve. Succeed.
Jeff
Don't Forget!!!

Academic Tip of the Week
Are you looking for ways to help students increase their performance in your classroom?
Try This:
Build in time during the lesson for the student to talk with a peer and have them explain to each other the components of what they are learning and what they think will come next with what they are learning.
Wellness Tip of the Week
Get in the Garden!
Not only does it make your landscaping pretty, but gardening also burns approximately 250 to 350 calories an hour. For optimal health benefits, garden three times a week for an hour at a time. Anything that makes you sweat—mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, hauling mulch—qualifies as exercise. Rotate tasks every 20 minutes or so to give all your major muscle groups a workout and to avoid overstraining one set of muscles.
Technology Tip of the Week
Don't forget to get your comp hours in before the comp day in April. I am having a session on EDpuzzle and Verso this Tuesday at 4:30 in lab 224. Many of you have been introduced to EDpuzzle before but Verso is a great tool that gets students thinking, writing, and interacting in a way that is safe for them. Watch the short videos below to learn more about each program!
