Terra Linda Tiger Tale
December 10, 2020
Principal's Message
Dear Terra Linda Families,
As we head into our final week of school in 2020, thank you for continuing to encourage your children to pay attention during Zoom, put in effort to complete Seesaw and Canvas activities to the best of their ability, and join in during movement breaks, PE lessons, and music. All are important! Students have been doing an amazing job, and everyone deserves the upcoming 16-day break. Teachers have several culminating activities planned next week, so we hope all students continue to join in every day.
On Friday, December 18, we are starting the day with an assembly. Each of our monthly assemblies will have a dress-up theme. This month is Pajama Day! I know some students probably wear their pajamas "to school" on Zoom every day, but now all students and staff are invited to participate! We will be enjoying some holiday-themed music and singing during the assembly. Your entire family is invited to join in. Please use one device per family to attend the assembly next Friday.
Finally, I want to encourage you to keep reading books out loud to your students - even if you have upper elementary children. You can read aloud something the whole family enjoys or target the book choice to each child and read it just to them. It's important for children to hear adults read to them. They can listen to a book that is too difficult for them to read on their own, they can hear what smooth reading sounds like so they can work to read in a similar way in their own books, and books read together can provide opportunities to discuss different topics, especially when the characters are navigating difficult situations that might come up for children in their own lives. Sometimes it's much easier to talk about problems faced by book characters than talking about things happening in our own lives. You can check out books from the Beaverton Library, reserve them online from the Terra Linda Library, or access digital texts through either the Beaverton Library or Sora. Happy reading!

Join a Snowflake Hunt!
This month Beaverton Safe Routes to School invites our Terra Linda Community and all other school communities to go on a Snowflake Hunt! To participate make a snowflake and place it in a window facing the street and then go for a walk and count how many snowflakes you find. We hope this provides your family with a fun activity and a little encouragement to get outside for a walk or roll. Use this link https://www.realsimple.com/.../how-to-make-paper-snowflakes for a snowflake making tutorial and make sure your trip is counted in the following ways:
- Send an email to bsdsaferoutes@gmail.com with the number of snowflakes you found. Be sure to include a note that you attend Terra Linda!
- BSD elementary students can also log their miles on their Marathon Kids account. If you need information on how to set up a Marathon Kids account, contact your PE teacher.
- Post a photo to social media with the following hashtags #BSDsaferoutes #BSDtogether #BSDmarathonkids
