What is PBIS?
A note from the School Nurse
Attention Parents:
Students taking prescribed medication need to have a form filled out and signed by the prescribing physician. New forms are needed at the start of EVERY school year. Forms do not carry over from the prior year. It is your responsibility to take care of this with your physician. No medication will be given without a signed form. It is not up to the school to take care of this.
Over the counter medication such as Motrin, Tylenol, Benadryl, etc. is available in the office if needed. Forms are available on line. We have had several students in the office complaining of a headache already. This is to help cut down on having to call parents to bring medication to the office or sending children home.
Allergies are in full swing. This can impact your child in a major way physically, runny nose, itchy/watery eyes, stomach ache from drainage, headache…, as well as concentration in class. If your child has allergies please medicate them on a regular basis during allergy season.
Otsego Elementary Physical Education 2018-19
The school year is off to a great start and as part of your child’s curriculum he/she will be taking physical education class. The physical education program’s main emphasis will be on motor skills, movement concepts, regular physical activity, health-enhancing level of physical fitness, responsibility and cooperation.
This carefully planned program for boys and girls is conducted both indoors and outdoors. We encourage students to wear clothing that is suited for physical activity; loose comfortable clothing. Tennis shoes are a must!!!!! With our schedule, students have physical education 2-3 days per week. It ends up being every other school day. We suggest students keep a pair of tennis shoes in their lockers/cubbies if necessary. Please no sandals, flip-flops, crocs or boots. Girls wearing dresses or skirts need to wear shorts or tights underneath. Please limit jewelry; especially dangling earrings.
Students needing to be excused from physical education must bring a written explanation of the illness/injury signed by a parent/guardian. If lack of participation is due to an extended illness or injury (more than a week), please send a note from your physician.
We encourage you and your child(ren) to exercise together and we would appreciate your assistance in promoting an attitude of “active for a lifetime” within your family.
We are excited to be working with your child(ren) this year. Thank you for your support and please feel free to contact us with any questions and/or concerns at
AKonoff@Otsegoknights.org, FRehbein@Otsegoknights.org or (419)-823-4381.

OES Parent Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures
Morning Drop-Off
Please use the entire length of the drop off zone (even past the crosswalk) to keep the line moving. If all cars pull up as far as they possibly can we can fit more vehicles along the sidewalk and more students can exit at a time. This will make drop-off go quicker while maintaining safety.
Students should only be let out on the side of the car that is next to the curb. This is to avoid students being hit by a moving car in the lane farther away from the curb. If your student needs to get out on that side of the car, please park in a parking spot and have your student walk into the building using the crosswalk.
Please do not stop in the crosswalk. If you are dropping a student off, please do not stop your car in the crosswalk. This is a safe place for students to cross, and when there are cars in the crosswalk it creates a safety concern.
The second lane is for driving only. No students should be let out of the car in the lane farther from the curb. Students should only be exiting cars onto the sidewalk so that we can ensure their safety.
Please remember to NOT park your car in front of the school! The line needs to keep moving to efficiently get students into the school in a timely manner, and when there is a parked car in the drop-off line, the whole process gets backed up. If for some reason you need to leave your car, please use the available parking spaces.
Afternoon Pick-Up
Please use the entire length of the pick-up zone (even past the crosswalk) to keep the line moving. If all cars pull up as far as they possibly can we can fit more vehicles along the sidewalk and more students can get into their vehicles. This will make pick-up go quicker while maintaining safety.
Please do not stop in the crosswalk. If you are picking a student up, please do not stop your car in the crosswalk. This is a safe place for students to cross, and when there are cars in the crosswalk it creates a safety concern.
The second lane is for driving only. No students should get into their car in the lane farther from the curb. Students should only be entering cars from the sidewalk or by using the crosswalk so that we can ensure their safety.
Please remember to NOT park and leave your car in front of the school! The line needs to keep moving to efficiently get vehicles out of the pick-up zone in a timely manner, and when there is a parked car in the line, the whole process gets backed up. If for some reason you need to leave your car, please use the available parking spaces. If you are parked while you are waiting for your student (and you are IN the car), that is fine.
THANK YOU so much for your understanding and compliance with these procedures to ensure our students’ safety. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Katrina Baughman, Elementary Principal.
Important Transportation Information
Elementary Bus Passes: We will no longer be able to accept bus passes for grades PK-5 for your child to ride home with a friend on another bus route. We have seen our transportation numbers increase over the past several years and in order to continue to operate the most efficient way possible, we will no longer be able to accept bus passes in the elementary.
If you have any questions, please contact the elementary school office or Eva Vasher.

Important Food Service Information
To better assist our parents, we have implemented an online free and reduced meal application. This will eliminate having to get a paper application, filling it out and returning it to your child’s school.
Fill out the online application under www.lunchapplication.com , just as you would the paper application. Once the application is completed we are notified so we can complete the application process. This will reduce your notification time.
Please make sure you have a correct mailing address on the application, so the notification letter gets to you.

Pay It Forward Project
We will be once again helping our students out with our Food Service Pay It Forward Project. This fund will provide meals to students who do not have lunch money in their account and cannot charge anymore. We want all of our students to get a hot meal every day. If you are interested in helping with this project you can send money into the central office or any of the buildings. Just put Food Service Pay It Forward on the envelope. You can make checks payable to the Otsego BOE. Thank you so much!!
If you have any questions please give Jeanne or I a call or send us an email.
OES Extended Care
Otsego Local Schools offers an Extended Care program for students age 5 through fifth grade. The before school program starts at 6:30am and goes to the start of school at 9:00am. The after school program begins at 3:30pm and closes at 6:00pm.
The hourly rate is $3.00 for the first child; $1.50 for the second child; $1.00 for the third child; and the fourth child and beyond are free. There is a $10.00 per family yearly registration fee which runs from June 1st to May 31st each school year.
You can access more information on Otsego’s Extended Care program at this link: https://elementary.otsegoknights.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=382480&type=d&pREC_ID=868128
Girls on the Run (GOTR): We still have a few spaces open for 3-5th grade girls who are interested in participating in GOTR. You can complete the registration online here:
https://www.raceplanner.com/register/index/fall18programNWO
5th grade Camp: If you have a student(s) in 5th grade we make our yearly trip to Camp Palmer on Wednesday, September 12th and return on Friday, September 14th. We have about 2.5 weeks until we leave. So here is what you need to know.
If you have not received a copy of the camp registration packet please contact me as soon as possible! All packets that were not picked up at our back to school or open house events were sent home on Monday and should have been received by now. This packet has all the information that you and your student will need for camp. There are several pages that will need to be returned to me by the end of the school day on Friday, September 7th at the latest! Please look the packet over as soon as you can and contact me with any questions. In addition to returning the needed information, I will also need your student's $40 camp fee by September 7th.
Prior to leaving for camp we will hold a 5th grade camp parent information night on Tuesday, September 4th at 6pm. If you are a parent of a 5th grade please mark this in your calendar. We will have a representative from Camp Palmer present to answer questions and go over camp procedures.
On September 12th we ask that the campers be dropped off at school by a parent, to ensure they have everything they need for camp. We will meet near the High School Commons entrance at 9:30 am. After checking in, parents are able to leave. We will return to school on Friday, September 14th around 1:30 pm. At this time all campers will be dismissed for the day. We again ask that a parent (or other noted caring adult) be present to pick your student up. Again, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me by phone at (419)823-4381 ext 4010 or email at esyrowski@otsegoknights.org.
I hope everyone had a great first week of school!
Knight in Shining Armor Nominations
Knight In Shining Armor Nominations
Please use the following form to inform OHS Student Council about a family in need within the school district. While the family does not need to have students in the district, we do ask that they are a member of the Otsego Community. Use this form to share information about their current situation as well as how they can best be assisted.
Please be sure to understand that while Knight in Shining Armor (KISA) would love to help all community members in need, we are still a new program, and may not have the funds to do so. With that being said, we will consider each request on a case by case basis. Filling this form out does not guarantee that we will be able to assist the family, but we will try our hardest to do so!
Here are some things that we have done with KISA funds:
- School supplies were purchased for multiple families.
- Gas money has been provided to get to and from medical treatment.
- Food cards have been provided to help families afford meals while going through medical treatment.
- Cash donations have been made to families to help assist in paying bills during medical treatment.
- Gift cards and supplies have been provided to help make ends meet after housing emergencies have occurred.
We now have TWO ways that you can nominate a family in need. Bookmark the link below to use as the need arises. You can also find this link on the Otsegoknights.org webpage under the "District" tab.
Please do not hesitate to nominate a family in need, and KISA will do their best to help out!

Reminders
SAVE ALUMINUM CAN TABS
Please help our students by collecting tabs from aluminum cans. Each tab is easy to remove and can be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. The tabs help fund various projects for Ronald McDonald Houses and its visitors. Send the tabs in a bag to the school and our students will do the rest!
SAVE BOX TOPS
You can help the school earn money for supplies by collecting Box Tops. Our PTO collects and counts them and puts the money straight back into the school. (We earn 10 cents per Box Top). If you are able to collect a lot of these, it would be great if you could turn them in in groups of 50, but we will take them even if they are not grouped together.
