Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 23rd October 2020
Community Day
Thank you!
On the morning of Community Day we were absolutely amazed at the wonderful generosity of all our families. I have been in touch with a foodbank and Ripon City of Sanctuary and they are both very grateful for the wonderful kindness shown. What a great way for our school to show love to our community.
A Harvest celebration with a difference
Zoom chat with the Cathedral
Each class had some great thoughtful questions including:
"What can you do in the Cathedral?" Reception
"Who do you help at the Cathedral?" Year 2
"What kind of people need the most help?" Year 3
"Why is a community important?" Year 4
"How do you keep the community spirit during the COVID pandemic?" Year 5
Canon Ailsa told them all about the important work of the Cathedral and the way that they try to help, support and pray for the most vulnerable in our society.

A terrific tournament
At the end of the games we counted up the points and Sharks were the winners. Well done to all of the children who demonstrated great teamwork and co-operation.

At our end of day worship, Sharks were announced as the winners.
A big thank you to Miss Haslam for all her help in teaching the children how to play Hockey and for organising such a fantastic tournament.
A Visit from the Police
The police came into school to talk about consequences of actions. They explained how the police handle different situations and help our community.

Our School Governors
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
As Governors we thought we should write to you at this time to reassure you that throughout Covid we have continued to support the school in every way we can. Normally we have quite a physical presence in and around school but despite current restrictions we are in regular contact via Zoom and continue to hold meetings and fulfil our statutory role as governors, including quality assurance.
We are extremely proud of the way that the team in school, led by Mr Holmes, is keeping our children safe and is ensuring that their education continues to be at a very high standard.
Our email addresses are readily obtained from Mrs Rich should you wish to be in touch. We always welcome feedback from our school family.
We really value the support you have shown the school throughout the pandemic. Mr Holmes and the staff could not have done such sterling work without you.
Be assured of our continuing care for our school.
We pray that you all stay safe and well.
The Governors
Reading, reading, reading
Opportunities to read are everywhere and most of the children in school can access reading texts and tasks online through Reading Plus (Years 5 and 6) and Reading Eggs (Years 2, 3 and 4).
School Update
Dear Parents and Carers
As we reflect back on the last half term, it is great to see how well the children have adapted to our new normal and the great progress that many children have made since our early baseline assessments were completed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our school family for their 'can do' attitude and the way that they have ensured that the children come first.
As I am sure you are aware, we have continued to have a high focus on the core subjects of English and mathematics ensuring that we consolidate and embed learning. It has, however, been lovely to have a day focussing on our community and PSHE and I have really enjoyed seeing how much the children enjoyed the Harvest Festival, creative activities and even sports tournaments. At Cathedral School we are all committed to ensuring that the children continue to experience a broad and rich curriculum.
Thank you for your continued support and I hope you have a great half-term break.
Kind regards
Steven Holmes
