New Furniture for Mrs. Bokano's Pilot Classroom
As one of the pilot classrooms for the new furniture, Mrs. Bokano’s classes have been enjoying the new feel of the classroom! Students have commented that the room feels more relaxed and the atmosphere feels more collaborative. The rolling chairs at the short tables make it easier for students to concentrate because they can move around a bit more. They also make it easier to quickly and efficiently collaborate with students sitting at their table space. Desks and chairs are much easier to move and make the environment much more conducive to small group and whole class discussions and the transitions between the two are more seamless and timely.
Students are also really enjoying the high-top tables as it allows them to see better at the back of the room. The tables also offer them a lot of work space and work well for collaborative projects.

Mr. Dimmer is the forensics teacher here at MCHS. Students thought it would be a good idea to create a scene in homage to his class.
Why We read with Mrs. Bokano's Class
Mrs. Bokano’s ELA 10 students worked together at the beginning of second semester to create a collaborative bulletin board display. They were tasked with creating a bulletin board that focused on the reasons we read. Students signed up for general topics with their table group and had to work collectively to figure out how to display their topic and what information to include. Students then had to work with the entire class to put the display together.
Once the displays were finished, the staff voted on what they felt was the most comprehensive display. The winner will have their project on display for a few months in a hallway showcase.

The Great Kindness Challenge
Students in Mrs. Bokano’s ELA classes were challenged to complete the Great Kindness Challenge that occurred during Kindness Week (01.24-01.28). This is a global initiative that originally started in two schools in California until it grew into the global sensation it is today. This initiative challenged students to complete acts of kindness throughout the week to spread more joy during tough times.
Mrs. Bokano challenged her students to complete six acts of kindness during the week. They had to complete the act of kindness and include a picture of that act on their kindness charts. Students were encouraged to complete more than the six acts of kindness to earn more tickets. Each act of kindness students completed earned them a raffle ticket to be entered into a drawing for a gift card! There were 3 winners per grade level. Acts of kindness ranged from helping neighbors, smiling at peers, writing notes to teachers and friends, and helping out around the house.
Students felt the challenge helped them to see that even the smallest act of kindness could have a positive impact on someone’s day.
