TEA Fellows 2015 Technology Workshop

Technology and Learning: What we will do

I'm Marshall Jones, and I'll be working with you on technology to support teaching and learning. We'll meet in a computer lab that has interactive white boards, computers, and a host of other types of technology. Curious about what we have for you to work with? Check out this link: http://rwr21century.weebly.com/current-itc-resources.html.

My goal is that you will learn to use technology for teaching and learning. We will work with a variety of different devices such as:

  • iPads
  • Chromebooks
  • Echo Smart Pens
  • Interactive white boards (SMART and Promethean)
  • And many others

We will also learn to use some good learning strategies and techniques. I will help you learn to:

  • Build a website.
  • Set up an online class.
  • Find free educational materials.
  • Identify learning problems and find the best solution for the problem.

I will introduce you to some interesting online tools, such as the one I'm using to create this web page. Your goal should not be to learn EVERYTHING while you are with us. Your goal should be to learn some things you can use right away, and to keep a list of other things to try when you are back home.

Can't wait to get started?

You can find me on YouTube. My YouTube Channel is https://www.youtube.com/user/drjwinthrop. I post videos here to use with my students. Here is one that provides an overview of some quick and easy tools to learn to use. And this technique, or narrating presentations to post online, I'll teach you to do this as well.

I post a lot of ideas and links on Twitter. If you aren't on Twitter, you may want to think about joining. It is a great way to stay current in and connect with people around the world.

Please fill out this survey.

I want to find out what you want to learn. Please take a moment to fill out this survey. (I'll teach you how to make online surveys too.) If you can't see the survey, the direct link is: http://tiny.cc/4tjisx.

That's it for now. I'll see you on February 1st. Safe travels.
