5th Grade Robotics - Update by Mr. Gingrich
The fifth grade has worked on coding and programming this year with Mr. Gingrich. Students practiced coding using coding sites as part of the One-Hour-of-Code initiative. The class also learned how coding is used by companies such as Amazon and 'controlled' Amazon robots through a simulation. Recently students learned about robots, their use, and built robots using LEGO We-Do 2.0 kits. These kits allow students to build different robots and then control them using an app with their Chromebooks. Students then had the opportunity to build their own robot designs and code them using the app. The class will work more on coding and robotics later this year.

Wax Museum Update by Mrs. Briggs
Every year, CES third graders complete a Wax Museum project. Each learner chooses a historical figure to research and portray in the living Wax Museum. To prepare for the presentation, students read a biography book, research facts, and take notes in order to write several paragraphs about the person’s life. A trifold board is used to display the information, a timeline, and images that help capture the audience's attention and interest.
A HUGE round of applause goes out to all the learners that worked so hard to learn about, and portray, many important people who have influenced the world. Great job! Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends that came to support and encourage these TERRIFIC THIRD GRADERS!
Absences
Regular attendance at school is critical for a student's success. The interactive nature of lessons at school today make it challenging to provide students with the same learning experiences when they return from an absence.
If a student reaches 10 half days (or 5 full days) of unexcused absences in a school year, the State of NH considers that student habitually truant. Our protocols require that we follow a process with families to ensure that the importance of attendance is understood and that unexcused absences are to be avoided.
Below I have attached a PDF of our attendance policy, as well as RSA 193:1 (Duty of a Parent - Compulsory Attendance) and RSA 189:35-a (Truancy defined).
Absences are excused in the event of sickness, required quarantine, a death in the family, or medical appointments. Other absences are considered unexcused and should be avoided.
Please note: SRSD School Board Policy JH states that for absences other than illness, parents must provide a written notice to the principal 10 days prior to the absence: the reason for the absence and how long the student will be absent.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for partnering with CES to support the success of all students.
