Summary of Michael Oher's life
Early Life
Michael Jerome Oher was born on May 28,1986 in Memphis, Tn. He was born without much parental support. His father was in and out of prison and his mother was a cocaine addict. His father was murdered while Michael was a senior in high school. Oher was going from foster home to foster home and constantly switching schools. He was struggling in school because of the trouble. He did not grow up with a silver spoon.
Life Changer
Oher was later taken in by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, a family four, living in Memphis, Tennessee. They became his legal guardians when he was 17 years old. The Tuohys' got Michael into football because of his big stature. He then excelled in football and became one of the top high school football recruits in the state of Tennessee. Oher received multiple scholarship offers from division 1 schools such as Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, NC State, and etc. He then decided to go to his legal guardians' Alma Mater, Ole Miss. He immediately got on the field in his freshman year. He was selected to the first team All-Freshman team. He was a first team All-American in 2008 and first team All-SEC in 2007 and 2008. Oher was a very accomplished college football player.
Pro Career
Oher graduated from the University of Ole MIss in 2008. He then declared for the 2009 NFL draft. Oher was selected 29th overall by the Baltimore Ravens. In his rookie season, he started all 16 regular season games and helped the Ravens make the playoffs. He continued to start for the Ravens. In the 2012-2013 season, the Ravens made it all the way and defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in Super Bowl XLVII. After the 2014 season, Oher was a free agent and decided to sign with the Carolina Panthers. He joined forces with the 2015 NFL MVP quarterback, Cam Newton. They made a push to Super Bowl 50 but fell short to the Denver Broncos 24-10. Oher is currently still on the Panthers squad chasing a Super Bowl this upcoming season.
Summary
Michael Oher had grown up through tough times. He never gave up through tough times and found himself a family that took him in as their own. He excelled in football which would give him a pathway to success and he did. Oher defied all odds and was great.
