Recent School Wide Events
Orange Shirt Day September 30th
Students at St. Vital School wore an orange shirt to learn about and be aware of the impact of Residential Schools on Aboriginal children and their families. This day was inspired by a lady named Phyllis Jack Webstad from BC who wrote a story about her experience as a little girl who went to a Residential School. Her message was that EVERY CHILD MATTERS.
Terry Fox Run October 2nd
This was the 40th Anniversary of Terry's journey in raising money for a cure for cancer. To create awareness classes were challenged to different task throughout the week.
- read 40 books
- raise 40 dollars
- walk for 40 minutes
Most classes were successful in meeting all the goals. As a school we raised $449.65. It was a tight race between the 1 /2 class raising $132.00 and the 4/5 class who could not let the other class win and raised $184.00. Thank you to all who contributed to the cause.
BYOD - Bring Your Own Device
With this interesting time comes a change in instruction. Teachers are preparing more of their classwork in a 'Blended Learning' format that allows students to work along with their class but also to learn in their own time, pace and space. An option for students is to bring their own device from home to support this in their classroom. A note will be sent home for parents with students in Grades 4-7 to read over with their child and discuss the option of bringing a device to school be it a laptop, iPad/Tablet or a cellular phone. It is important to review the expectations for use of the device and to follow the rules around this to respect the safety and privacy of others.
School Community Council AGM
October 20th St. Vital will be hosting their AGM for the 2020-2021 school year. All families are welcome to attend the AGM and learn about what is going on at St.Vital and ways that they can help support the school and students. The meeting will occur on ZOOM and the link will be shared through school messenger to all families. Nominations forms for the positions of Chair, Co-chair, Secretary and 6 members will be due October 16th. If necessary there will be an election. At the AGM there will be a principal's report, review of School Learning Goals and at that time the SCC will set their goals for the year. All are welcome to come to the AGM. If you are interested in having your name stand for one of the positions please have someone fill a nomination form and email it to natasha.nichol@lskysd.ca by October 18th. Hallowe'en Celebrations
Celebrating Faith at St. Vital
Grade 3 Sacramental Prep Students
In November students in Grade 3 will be receiving their sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Holy Communion. There will be a parent meeting 7:00pm at St. Vital Church for more information. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they continue their journey in our faith.
Fruits of the Spirit - Student Recognition
This year student recognition will be focused on the Fruits of the Spirit. Each month will have a specific focus that students will be exhibiting in their classroom, on the playground and in the community.
October's Fruit of the Spirit is Self Control. The main idea is for people to control their actions, words, and responses.
Here is something you can help your children to reflect on when working on self control:
Stop what I’m doing.
Think about how my actions, thoughts, words will impact others.
Pray for help to obey God.
On Thursday, October 29th, students who exhibited this Fruit of the Spirit will be recognized during a virtual assembly. As well, the school will be wearing the colour brown to represent this Fruit.
