Mikhail Gorbachev is important in history because he was the leader of the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Ronald Reagan, when he was president at the time, told Gorbachev to "Tear down this wall!" which had separated Germany from the communists and non-communists. Mikhail Gorbachev did control the tear down of the wall as said by Ronald Reagan.
