The South Carolina LCM Champs are an EPIC Success!

Big picture

Thanks for being awesome!

Wow we did it! We hosted the largest ever Long Course State Championships! We had over 200 swimmers come from all over the Southeast and as far away as Canada and Texas to experience the hospitality of Greenville Splash! Thanks to our meet planning committee for doing an astounding job: Amy Browning, Bob McAdam, John Decker, Bill Ewell, Carolyn Moore, Molly Willingham, and Steve Scott. We also had over 50 volunteer timers and officials that were kind enough to donate their expertise to our event. Thank you so much to our volunteers as their help ensured the success of our meet. Swimmers everywhere were so appreciative.

The big highlights were the Mens 400 Medley Relay 240+ from North Carolina that broke the world record! Congrats to our new world record holders: Jon Klein, Neal Vestal, Greg Sanchez, and Henry Stewart. We also had Len Gushe from Canada that swam 4 events that broke the Canadian National Records. We had a men's and mixed relay team that was age 320+ from Low Country Masters, this was the first time in South Carolina that a relay was swum in that age group! Kudos to these youngsters: Pete Lauer, Louis Ackerman, Bob Colyer, Pete Palmer, Bonnie Downs and Barbara Eisele

And our team was absolutely astonishing! We came in first place in team points, which was an amazing feat, but more importantly we were full of awesome sportsmanship, volunteerism and camaraderie! Great job to our new swimmers: Beth Bailey, Donald Bleasdale, Casey Crisp, Ross Germani, David Hall, Sebastian Schneidet, Monte St. Amant, and Paige Strickler. We are so proud of our new swimmers for breaking out of their comfort zone and trying a Masters swim meet! We appreciate the efforts of Sebastian Schneidet, John Decker and Bill Ewell for staying to swim both the 800 and then the 400! This helped out a lot for team points. And my favorite swim was Travis Self, taking 7 minutes off his 1,500 time from last year. Yes you read that right, 7 minutes!! Most swimmers are excited to take off 7 seconds!

Great job everyone! And thank you for your dedication to Greenville Splash as a swimmer, volunteer, sponsor, or official!

Swimmer of the Month: Rob Seigler

Big picture
We are proud to announce Rob Seigler as Swimmer of the Month! Rob was on fire at our SC LCM Championships. He earned 3 state records in the 50 & 100 Free and 100 Back. It was really exciting to watch Rob race and break these records. It was also precious to see his children cheering for him by running up and down the pool deck on Father's Day! Rob is a very dedicated swimmer and loves to workout!! He enjoys swimming workouts with our group so much that he has a membership or punchcard at all 3 pools! Rob cares about his teammates and shows enthusiam and compassion for his teammates and coaches. And even though Rob is a sprinter, he ventured out and joined us at the lake. Rob has an awesome work ethic and is very coachable. He is always looking to improve his technique, speed and endurance.

Open Water Group Swims

It's open water swim season. Come join us for a fun way to enjoy the great outdoors with your swim friends. All swimmers need to be USMS members to participate. If a swimmer is not a member, they can fill out a 30 day trial membership (this is good for one time only). Make sure to buy a safe swim buoy. They can be purchased at Amazon or SwimOutlet. We do have extra buoys if you need to borrow one.

We really appreciate our kayak support that volunteers their time to keep us safe in the water: Janie Ewell, Steve Scott, Brett Baker, Sara Baker, Joel Barbar, Tedd Garner, Cory Walsh

Freestyle Tip from Coach Leslie Scott

The catch is an important part of freestyle. Many swimmers are too timid with their entry. Instead of wearing paddles with the straps, try holding hand paddles by grabbing them from the top and rest on your forearms. Try punching or digging deeper on the entry. Engage your core to feel more powerful. Try isolating the catch by just working on that small part of your stroke. Watch the video below.

Splashing Accomplishments

Congratulations to Greenville Splash for being awarded Gold Club Status by USMS! There are only 14 clubs in the country to receive this recognition!

Be A Part of the Team!

Swimmers will need to be a member of United States Masters Swimming and pay Greenville Splash dues to participate in workouts at the Kroc and Westside. Thanks for those that have paid their dues already! We appreciate all the support. Being a member of USMS provides our club liability insurance at open water events and workouts.
