Attendance Notifications (In-Person Learning)
With the return of full in-person elementary students and the return of middle and high school students in a hybrid model beginning on Monday, October 5, Blue Valley schools will be notifying families of any unexpected absences through email, phone, text, and optional push notifications. Families can expect automated attendance messages by email, phone, and text if a child is absent and his/her absence has not already been reported by a parent/guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to call the school to report an absence or reply to the automated email or phone message.
Middle school and high school students on at-home learning days (within the hybrid model) will continue to be expected to check-in for each class via Zoom or another manner indicated by their teacher. During this check-in time, attendance will continue to be taken.
What is the purpose of attendance notifications?
We realize that students may occasionally need to miss school for planned absences, illnesses, and appointments. However, when a student does not arrive at school or unexpectedly misses a portion of the school day, we are concerned and want to make sure you are aware that your child is absent.
How can I get push notifications?
Families who would also like a push notification can download the ParentVUE app and manage their notifications. If a child has an unreported absence when a teacher submits attendance, then a push notification will immediately be sent to the parent/guardian's mobile device.
Interested in push notifications? Simply download the ParentVUE app (iTunes app store or Google Play), enable push notifications in device settings and select attendance notifications through in-app settings.
Important information regarding in-person cafeteria meal service
The district has made several modifications in the cafeteria to help provide a contact-free environment for students and staff. Entrée items will be packaged or will be served to students, and side items will be individually pre-portioned. Students will now scan a meal card rather than type in their ID number at the register. All high school students will receive an email on their school email account with their meal card attached. Please have your student open the attachment on their cell phone and screen shot it to save the image. Students will use their phones to scan their meal card at the registers. Students will also have an option to use a printed meal card and lanyard when they return to school.
For more information about these modifications, meal cost, adding funds to your child’s account and more, please visit the district website.

AP Exam Information:
Deadline for students to order exams for year long classes without late fee is October 30th.
There are two steps for students to fully register for an AP Exam.
○ 1- Using the Join Code teachers provide them with on College Board website
○ 2- Actually paying for the exam on Total Registration website
■ If a student does not complete BOTH of these steps by Oct. 30th, the exam will not be ordered.
● Please get your College Board Join Code from your AP Teacher
● Here is the link to pay for the exam: https://user.totalregistration.net/register/get_student_email_status.php?ceeb=172302&is School=1&testMode=1
Reminder: students need to use their existing accounts for Total Registration and College Board (they have these accounts if they tested for AP in the past). Students should not create a new account if they do not remember their login information. They must go through the steps to gain the login information from College Board, Southwest does not have the details.
If you are taking a virtual AP class that is taught by a teacher not from Blue Valley Southwest, the AP Coordinator will give you the College Board join code.
If you have any questions please contact your AP teachers or the AP Coordinator. AP Coordinator: Casey Weber cmweber@bluevalleyk12.org
college now information
College Now Course Placement Test Requirements - To assist students during the COVID-19 pandemic, our faculty has created several pathways for students who need to enroll in College Now courses that have a placement test requirement. For a complete list of how students can place into their courses, go to www.jccc.edu/CollegeNow. The link in Step 2 includes instructions on how to request a placement waiver if the placement requirement is met with an ACT score, AP test score, or high school GPA. For those who do not have a qualifying test score, this web page also provides a link for students to sign up for an appointment to take the Accuplacer test.
Due to required social distancing measures in our Testing Center, seating will be limited. It will be very important this year for students to schedule an appointment to do their placement testing early and not wait until the enrollment deadline week.
Quick Step Plus College Algebra Placement Test - Students who have an ACT Math score of 22 or higher may request a placement waiver for Quick Step Plus College Algebra by going to www.jccc.edu/QuickStepPlus. Students who do not have a qualifying ACT Math score will receive directions from their instructor on how to take the ALEKS placement test online.
Important Reminder - Be sure to complete all steps in the enrollment process. Students who obtain a placement waiver still need to log in to MyJCCC, register for the course, and pay their tuition. The fall College Now and Quick Step Plus enrollment deadline is Friday, Oct 16!
