Edison Hispanic Heritage Night

What a fun event! All of our dual language classes performed hispanic cultural dances. This year, we knew we would need more space so we filled the stands at the GJHS football field with hundreds of excited parents ready to watch their children sing and dance. Thank you to all the parents, community members, and businesses for donating all the wonderful food for our parents, staff, and students!

GHS Alumni Hall of Fame

Each year, the GHS Alumni Association asks for nominations for outstanding GHS Alumni and GISD Educators. On Saturday, a celebration was held honoring the 2017 Hall of Fame inductees. Congratulations to the Educators: V.S. Payne, Susie Rouw, and Marcia Schmitz as well as the GHS Alumni Phil Adams (Class of ‘64), Mack Barnhart (Class of ‘56), Jane Clayton Hickerson (Class of ‘72), and Jack Mahan (Class of 1916). Thank you to the Alumni Association for honoring these individuals!

United Sound Comes to GHS

We are excited to announce that Gainesville High School will be participating in the United Sound program. United Sound is a nationwide non-profit organization that helps put musical instruments in the hands of students with special needs. Dedicated to promoting social involvement through shared ensemble performance experience, United Sound joins students with and without disabilities to learn and perform in the band together. GHS Jazz Band members will work with these students once per week after school to help them learn their instrument and ultimately prepare for a group performance. Thank you to Mr. Rutherford, Director of Fine Arts and Mr. Firth, GHS Life Skills teacher (and talented musician) for bringing this opportunity to our students, both mentors and mentees.

Kiwanis Support our Head Start

We are extremely thankful to our Gainesville Kiwanis Club for their continued support of our District by working with the Key Club and providing literacy components to the Head Start program, just to name a few. Every Tuesday, a Kiwanian reads to our students and leaves the book for the class to enjoy throughout the year. Pictured is Kiwanian Casey Klement reading to our students.
