Events/ Competition/ Challenge Opportunities for Students
#AldineHoC (Hour of Code)
This year's THEME: #CSforGOOD
The Hour of Code will continue inspiring student creativity with a theme that we can’t wait to share with you: Computer Science for Good. #CSforGood
Inspired by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Hour of Code will highlight how we can all use computer science to make a positive impact on our world, from writing apps to solve a local problem, to using innovative ideas in data science to address global challenges.
Whether that means building affordable technology to help farmers in sub-Saharan Africa, programming white blood cells to fight cancer, or revolutionizing the packaged foods industry with artificial intelligence, people are using CS in creative ways to solve problems and provide opportunities for others.
How will Aldine Promote Hour of Code?
This year were are partnering directly with YOU (the coding club sponsor as well as our campus ILS) to bring the Hour of Code to all students (PreK- 8th grade)

TLA: Next competition opportunity for students!
The Texas Youth Creators Awards, previously named the Texas Media Awards, promote excellence in amateur media production and its importance in life-long learning. Since 1988, it has been an annual, statewide event open to school-aged Texas residents. Each entry will be reviewed and submitted by a sponsoring librarian to ensure copyright compliance and to highlight the important roles librarians play in technology integration and instruction. Qualified, impartial volunteers judge entries on criteria for each individual contest division.
Students with winning entries receive awards at the Texas Youth Creators Awards Program during the Texas Library Association Annual Conference. The most outstanding entry over all earns the Bob Bennett “Best of Show” Award. Texas Youth Creators Awards Program sponsors include the Texas Youth Creators Awards Committee, the TLA Media and Related Technologies Round Table, and the Texas Association of School Librarians.
You will need to submit a separate form for each entry, listing only the student or students that worked on that particular project.
