Week 1: 9/11/2020
Ready, Get Set, We are GO for Remote Learning!
Remember that Monday is a work day for students - they should still be completing work independently for their classes. This work can take on many different forms, but there will be work for them to complete. Parents, please have your students start in the morning, like the normal routine, as teachers will be available for questions during their office hours of 8:30-9:45 each Monday. After 9:45 they will be focusing on professional development and planning/creating lessons with their fellow teachers and will not be a quick to respond to students in need of help. We will still be taking attendance on Mondays - but it is based on students completing the independent tasks assigned in each class to them prior to the end of the school day on Monday.
If you have questions or challenges next week, please call MPMS at 703-361-1510. Our office is open from 8:00-3:00 every school day.
Thank you to our parents, students, and teachers for doing a great job this week!

Monday Grade Level Updates!
Our hope is that this due date list will help you check up on your child's progress and make sure all assignments are turned in on time - so PowerSchool never has a missing assignment or a zero.
Let us know how it goes - and let us know if you have any ideas on how to help you support your children's education at home!
For Upcoming 7th Graders!
The Tdap shot is required to be given to all students prior to the start of 7th grade. If you do not have your Tdap vaccination records on file, you will not be able to receive virtual or in person education.
If we did not have your Tdap vaccination record on file today, you can email it directly to Dr. Sieloff at matt.sieloff@mpark.net.
Until vaccination records are complete, your child will not be able to access their school materials through their MP device.
You can get your Tdap from your pediatrician, Patient First, or from a pharmacy clinic like CVS or Walgreens.
Please submit your paperwork to MPMS as an email attachment to Nurse Vonvital at dianna.vonvital@mpark.net (scan or high resolution photo of the entire document) or drop it off to the main office between 8am-3pm any day of the week.

MPMS Library Updates!
Library Canvas Conferences
Mrs. O’Connell is holding Library Office Hours 3 times a day, Monday through Friday, within Canvas. These conferences are not required; they are casual drop-in sessions to chat and ask questions. Usually the hours are:
8:10 am - 8:30 am
11:30 am - 12:30 pm
3:10 pm - 3:30 pm
All students and staff have been invited to join the Library Canvas course. There are no graded assignments for this course. It’s a resource for you to use, and joining the course means that it can be readily accessed from your course list in Canvas. The Library Canvas course is here: https://mpcs.instructure.com/courses/2426/. If you haven’t gotten an invitation, just click “Join this course.”
September is Public Library Card Sign-Up Month!
In addition to your school library, you can get two public library cards to access even more resources. For the new Manassas Park City Library, sign up with your parents present by clicking here https://manassasparkcitylibrary.org/get-a-library-card/. Use your home (not school) email address. If you do not have a Prince William County Public Library card, you can sign up here as well https://www.pwcgov.org/government/dept/library/Pages/How-To-Get-A-Library-Card.aspx.
Parents are our Partners - Keep us up to date on your contact information!
If you do not have an email address, please set one up, as email is the most commonly used communication tool for Canvas announcements and teacher updates. Any gmail, yahoo, msn, mail.com, etc. address will work. Just set it up, put it into PowerSchool's parent portal, and check it to stay up to date on what is going on at MPMS with your child.
We greatly appreciate your help and want to keep you informed! Together we will make remote learning work for your child.
Middle School Sports!
If your child is getting an annual physical with their pediatrician and plans to play a sport this school year, please have your doctor fill out the sports physical form (link below.)
Sports physicals are good for the entire school year, so any completed this fall will still be valid for a potential winter or spring sports season.
Need Tech Support?
If your child is experiencing any technology trouble, please email it.support@mpark.net. They will assist with any technology needs and repairs.
If you need a Wifi hotspot, they are available! Please email it.support@mpark.net to arrange a pick up at MPMS.
Please Make Sure All Debts are Paid!
Please pay and settle all outstanding fines (technology obligations, library fines, etc.) as soon as possible. Payments can be made by cash or check or online at myschoolbucks.com. If you are paying for a technology obligation by check, please make checks payable to MPCS.
If you have any questions or need to know what your student owes, please contact Mrs. Wence, the Bookkeeper, in the front office. 703-361-1510, x17102 or via email at kim.wence@mpark.net.
