Ms. Boston's Bulletin
October 28 - November 1
Skills for the week
In reading we will learn..
• to produce a word that rhymes with a given word
At home:
Ask your child to come up with rhyming words for objects around the house. Ex: You could say, "What is a word that rhymes with cat?" Your child may respond "hat, mat, fat, sat." We have also worked with nonsense words so words like wat, zat, or lat will be acceptable also.
In math we will learn..
• to recognize the number 5
At home:
Look at magazines and other printed materials with your child. Ask your child to pick out all the number 5s that he or she sees. In class we have been identifying them with highlighters or sticky notes. This may be a fun way to count the amount of fives you see total.
In social studies we will learn..
• the roles and responsibilities of community workers
At home:
Discuss with your child different community workers such as police men, firefighters, teachers, principals, and veterinarians. Encourage your child to play pretend, or dress up, as any one of these workers.
Halloween Party
Now that October is coming to an end, it is time for our Halloween party. On Thursday, October 31, your child may wear a Halloween costume to school. However, the costume must represent a character from a book. Please send the book to school with your child so that we can all show each other our costumes, as well as, the books our characters came from. In addition to a costume contest, we will be having a miniature trick-or-treat field trip to the other Pre-K classes in our hallway. I can't wait to see every one dressed up!
Thanks for all your do,
Denae Boston
Upcoming Imporant Dates
Monday, November 4th, we will start our Thanksgiving unit. We will discuss indians, pilgrims, and the many different things we are thankful for. We will have art activities to go along with each of these that will be sent home at the end of each week. To conclude our Thanksgiving unit, we hope you will join us for a Thanksgiving feast on Friday, November 22. More details to come. Hope to see all of you there!
