Recognition
Celebrating National Board Certified Teachers
Ashley (A.J.) Lambert from Pasco High School was recognized for receiving her National Board Certification this year! She received a plaque to hang in her classroom to celebrate and acknowledge this great accomplishment.
Honoring Teachers and Certificated Employees
The White House declared May 1 – 7 as National Teacher Appreciation Week, which was established to honor educators who touch the lives of students daily as they educate, innovate, encourage, and support students across the nation. The district celebrated our 1,477 certificated employees, including teachers, counselors, nurses, librarians, specialists, and other specialized learning support positions vital to supporting our Pasco students during the board meeting.
Maria Lee, President of the Pasco Association of Educators Union, and union representatives from many of our schools were in attendance to be recognized on behalf of our certificated employees in the district.
Department of Ecology Grant: Electric Buses
Raul Sital, Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Support, provided a report to the Board regarding a grant proposal the district applied for to replace three PSD diesel school buses with all-electric school buses and build charging stations into our current infrastructures. The grant funding is available competitively to help schools reduce greenhouse gas emissions from diesel-powered school buses.
Sexual Health Curriculum Adoption Update
Carla Lobos, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, provided the Board with an overview and update regarding Sexual Health curriculum adoption and recommendations for grades 5 -12 in response to new requirements from OSPI. Ms. Lobos discussed The Curriculum Review Teams review process and the next steps of the adoption process.
Professional Learning Communities
Carla Lobos, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, provided the Board with an overview/update for the board regarding Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s) in the district. PLC’s are an ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve. The district is adopting ways to monitor implementation and provide district support to help PLC’s be successful.
