LEVELING UP IN 2020
Howdy Hounds!
It was a great week at Huggins Elementary. As I visit classrooms (both on-campus and virtually), I see students engaged and excited about learning! We also have a perfect picture day...and it was so good getting a chance to see our virtual students!
Today is the last day for parents to make a change to learning models for the second nine weeks. The first day of the second nine weeks is Monday, October 26th. For students that are returning to campus, this will mirror the first day of school. We will be spending the next two weeks preparing for a smooth transition for our students. Providing the best possible educational experience remains at the forefront of all decisions that will be made. The second nine weeks transition involves many layers. We must look at the total number of students transitioning, individual needs of students, and ensuring safety protocols. There may be changes to our master schedule as we make this move. We appreciate your understanding and support as we move through these precedented times together. Please know that what is best for kids remains at the forefront of every single decision we make.
Please note that October 29th and 30th are early dismissal days for our students. Students will be released at 11:30am. The afternoons provide dedicated time for our teachers to engage in Parent/Teacher Fall Conferences based on student observation and progress during the first nine weeks. Be on the look out for sign-up times from your child's teacher. All conferences will be held via Zoom this year.
Next Week is School Lunch Week! We are taking time to say thank you to our amazing cafeteria staff, including our lunchroom monitor Ms. Flores. These amazing ladies work hard to make sure our students enjoy one of their favorite parts of the day!
We hope you have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Bethany Cunningham
Principal

CHARACTER COUNTS!
October is the month of RESPECT!
Treat others with respect; follow the Golden Rule • Be tolerant and accepting of differences • Use good manners, not bad language • Be considerate of the feelings of others • Don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • Deal peacefully with anger, insults, and disagreements
October also is host to CHARACTER COUNTS! week (Oct. 19-23) and Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 26-30). Look for more information in the upcoming Paw Prints on how Huggins will be celebrating both of these weeks!
HGI Counseling Center
Our HGI therapist still has some openings for clients. She will be available on-campus and virtually. If you would like more information on this free resource, contact Mrs. Reddy (K,2,4) or Mrs. Evans (1,3,5).
Smart Tag Parent Portal (repeat)
The Parent Portal for SMART Tag was opened on Monday, September 21ST. Parents can now register and view their child’s ridership information via the Parent Portal. Parents may see when and where their child got on and off the bus via a webpage on their computer or smart device. They may also receive notifications via text that the bus will soon be at their morning stop. Additional information can be found by clicking here. The link provides detailed steps, including videos, on how parents can get registered.

Face Coverings (Repeat)
Students are required to bring two dress code approved masks/face coverings daily. One will be worn, and one additional mask/face covering will be brought in a sealed/ziploc bag. Labeling of the masks with a student name is suggested.
Mask questions we have received:
Can my child wear a face shield? Full-face shields may be used in place of a mask to protect eyes, nose, and mouth whenever a mask is not feasible or whenever the education context may benefit from the ability to see an individual’s full face.
Can my child wear a neck gaiter/buff? Yes, these are also approved.
Does the mask have to be a Huggins uniform color? No. Masks may be any color or design. However, no inappropriate language or images will be allowed.
***Please note that BSN Sports has graciously donated Huggins Hounds lanyards that will be given to students on the first day of school. Students will be able to use these lanyard to attach their masks so that they do not get lost.
