AISM February Newsletter
5/2/2021
Dear Families,
Welcome to February and Welcome Back to Campus.
The campus is buzzing with the joy of children. We are all happy to have students back on campus. The road was a little bumpy, as we negotiated the reopening of the campus, thank you for your supportive and kind words, during this unprecedented time. Many schools around the world, including the US, are currently struggling with how to reopen schools safely. We are following the protocols, hand washing, mask wearing and social distancing. We can only hope that our earnest efforts will be rewarded, with the ability to keep the campus open. As we have experienced, the school plan can and will change. Someone said, all Parent Communications for the school year should come with a ‘subject to change’ disclaimer.
We can not stress enough, how important it is to keep students home who are unwell. Even the slightest sniffle, cough or temperature should be monitored over a 24 hour period, before returning to school.
The protocols and the proactiveness have been beneficial. However, the protocols make it difficult to have the normal gatherings of schoolwide events. We are modifying and having smaller and rotational events. The PTA is planning to have a Valentine's Day event, complete with Bake Sale goodies (individually wrapped and behind plexiglass) a photo boothand a Virtual Scavenger Hunt. Lower school is planning 100 days of school celebrations, in each class.
Finally, as part of the Common Core curriculum, we plan to celebrate Black History Month by having an outdoor "Gallery Walk". Students will display their class work as it pertains to Black History for all to enjoy. When completed, parents will be welcomed to enjoy the "Gallery Walk"
We are constantly looking for creative ways to celebrate and stay safe.
All the Best,
Dr.Bobbi

A Note from the Charirman of the AISM Board
Greetings from the AISM Board Chair
A warm hello and happy 2021 to you.
Much has gone on behind the scenes with your school’s board over the last 18 months. These have included:
Interviewing, recruiting, and hiring of our fine new Director Bobbi McDaniel. (Yeah!)
Approving school budgets and carefully watching the finances during COVID-19 to ensure that the school remains strong, and strengthens even further. (We’re doing fine.)
Approving the expansion of AISM’s classes into 10th grade to better serve all of our constituencies.
Discussing and approving infrastructure improvements, such as the Director’s Residence, upgrading technology, and exploring long-term plans for further developments.
You might already know this, but just in case you don’t: the Board is not involved in the day-to-day issues of AISM. Instead, it looks out for the well-being of the school as an institution and monitors the performance of our Director. We help set the vision for where the school will be going, and carefully evaluate whether we have sufficient resources to get us there.
Board members serve because they are committed to improving AISM’s education in a sustainable manner. Some Board members will participate in the February 17 PTA meeting and look forward to providing additional updates, and possibly answering some questions.
For an ever-stronger AISM.
