Sunny Weekend
I hope you have a great start to your weekend. I got out of town and took the dog to the coast to stretch her legs a bit. I am hopeful you enjoyed the amazing sunshine. I know you have all been working hard and taking on a lot. Keep your balance. Keep your momentum stable and your energy up. It is a long road to June. Breathe.

In The Know
The First Big Idea of a PLC - The first and biggest idea is based on the premise that the fundamental purpose of the school is to ensure that all students learn at high levels (grade level or higher). This focus on and commitment to the learning of each student are the very essence of a learning community. In order to achieve the premise that all students learn at high levels we must collectively commit to a clear and compelling vision of what we must become in order to help all student learn. A corollary assumption is that if Churchill High School is to become more effective in helping all students learn, the adults in the organization must also be continually learning. This is why we have a focus on making staff meetings, curriculum council, and other such systems learning focused as opposed to agenda item focused. Our aim is to ensure that staff members are engaged in job embedded learning as a part of the routine work practice. This is why we have a strong focus on AVID strategies. We want to ensure that staff have the opportunity to learn and practice research based instructional strategies that have high yield and engagement with students.

Thank you to Jennifer Scurlock, Kevin Summerfield, and Paola Massingham for your leadership with students attending the Townhall Symposium. Your leaderdship allows students to engage in powerful conversations through inquiry based education. This is strong and important work to get students to discuss difficult and courageous conversation with the ability to listen and understand differing perspectives. Job well done.
