Important changes to Hemlock's Food Service Program
Every student enrolled in both virtual and face-to-face learning will now enjoy FREE breakfast and lunch regardless of income. Please remember to still fill out and turn in the free/reduced meal applications that were in the welcome back packets. These apps are also located in all school offices or online at hemlockps.com. Other district programs such as, Title 1 and 31A, are in association with meal benefits so this is very important to do.
Our menus are found online at hemlockps.com and paper copies are available in all school offices. You can find the online menus under the dining icon for each building site.
The Elementary and Ling students that are on campus choose whether they want a lunch and breakfast daily on a live Google document every morning with their teacher. At this time they also have the option to let their teacher know if they want to take home a breakfast and lunch for their virtual day. We then pass those meals out at the end of the day for them to take home. Middle and High School students come down to the cafeteria daily to get their meals. They also let their homeroom teacher know if they want to pick up meals at the end of the day for their remote learning.
Virtual students now have this option for their remote learning: Call (989)642-4700 or email tomasek@hemlockps.com by 9:00am on Wednesdays. Pick up for virtual meals will be Thursdays from 2:45pm-4:00pm. These meals will be distributed at Hemlock Middle School at door #29 in the side parking lot. When requesting meals please leave your last name and how many students you have in your household so when you pull up we will have your meals ready and labeled.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me at: tomasek@hemlockps.com or call (989)642-4700.
Respectfully,
Christine Tomasek-FSD
Welcome Mr. Bicigo!
Week 2 Update
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 03, 2020
As promised, we will continue to provide a regular school update. This week, we continued school with a soft start with approximately 50% attending face-to-face instruction daily and the others learning remote.
Right now, we can report there are no reports of new Covid-19 cases from our second week back at school. We however continue to be cautiously optimistic and have kept on the path of additional precautionary measures.
It is mission critical that each one of us has to do our part to keep our children safe and learning. Please remember to complete a health screener with your child before sending them to school.
Our team here continues to work hard and are doing their absolute very best with the circumstances that we are operating under. We have launched free breakfast and lunch for all students under the age of 18 this week.
Please remember no school on Friday, September 4th, and Monday, September 7th due to the holiday weekend. On Tuesday, September 8th we will have all of our face-to-face students on campus. This will increase traffic flow and require additional patience from everyone.
If you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the central office at 989.642.5282
All the best,
Don Killingbeck
Superintendent of Schools
The following are lessons learned from this week.

- Establishing the right routines and habits, during our soft start will pay dividends later.

HEMLOCK ATHLETES START FALL SPORTS
The Hemlock Huskies are back in action! After the announcement came from MHSAA on September 3, 2020, excitement is in the air that fall sports are back!
With the new Executive Order 176, competition may begin in soccer in all regions of the state. This same order has opened for indoor facilities for organized sports practice and competition, allowing volleyball to begin indoors on Wednesday, September 9. This has also removed the restrictions on all sports, including football. Our varsity boy’s tennis and varsity cross-country have been allowed to practice and compete per the MHSAA sport-specific guidelines.
Hemlock’s Varsity Football Coach Clark shared, "We are incredibly excited and grateful to be back. The positive news was like a lightning bolt through the veins. I'm incredibly happy for these kids. With that said, we have much work to complete to achieve game readiness. We will. Hemlock Football will be ready September 17 and 18."
Hemlock High School will be live streaming volleyball, football, and soccer games so the Huskie fans can continue to cheer on the pack throughout the season! You can find these games and more on the NFHS Network website.
"We were very excited to hear the update last week. Schedules will need to be adjusted and changed but that is ok. We are just happy that all our athletes will be able to compete. We continue to encourage our athletes to complete their FinalForms registration for any sports they plan on playing this year. The athletic department continues to be flexible to support our athletes, parents, and coaches," shared Athletic Secretary Jamie Galbraith.
