Amazing Shake
The Amazing Shake is coming back to SMS on January 22nd and 23rd.
What is The Amazing Shake?
Founded in Atlanta, Georgia, The Amazing Shake is a FUN event that tests students' resilience and essential skills for success: communication, discipline, professionalism, and confidence/charisma.
Students will work their way through a variety of real-world scenarios that foster positive and professional relationships with members of our community.
What can you expect?
A supportive community rooting for you and a day full of surprises.
And finally...This year's champion and runner up will have the opportunity to move on to travel to the Global Amazing Shake Competition at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia!
Good luck to all SMS students who signed up to participate in this amazing opportunity.
Thank you to Mrs. Comer, Mr. Hicks, Mrs. Lowry, and all of the community volunteers who help with the event.
Mobile Dentist
We are partnering with Smile Programs, the mobile dentists who offer in-school dental care.
Dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted, including Medicaid and CHIP. Students without insurance may be eligible for a grant. The Mobile Dentist program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed professionals.
Please sign up at mobiledentists.com or you may contact your school nurse with any questions.
Exploring Music
SMS seventh grade students are learning the basics of how to play an acoustic guitar. They know the parts of the guitar and practiced a beginner tune this week. In addition, Mr. Carter is connecting these lessons to a Mitch Albom book titled The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto.
The six pictures below showcase some of the students during the first few classes.
Making Positive Choices
We make more than a thousand decisions every day. Here are some steps we should consider in order to make the most positive choices possible:
- Does a decision need to be made? What choices do you have?
- Stop and think before you act. What do you need to know in order to make a healthy decision?
- Do you need help with this decision? Who can help?
- What are the possible outcomes for each of the choices?
- What's the healthy choice for you? Why?
