A Look At Our Week....
Happy Mother's Day to all! The children worked really hard on their cards, check their folders if you haven't seen yours! They obviously love and appreciate y'all so much - they were so happy when creating them, and they come deep from within their hearts. I hope that you've all been able to spend some special time with your children this weekend.
We continue to work hard on our literacy skills. Ms. Tax will be assessing your child's reading level at the end of the week. I will send home another load of 'baggy books' on Monday. In Fundations, we will begin focusing on reading sentences, instead of decoding single words. Your children are really applying their phonological awareness during Writing time. The classroom has exploded with empowered writers! We are researching African Animals during our Writing/Science block. At the end of the week, ask them what camouflage is, and to name an animal that uses camouflage to survive.
Speaking of Science...on Tuesday we are going on a Field Trip to Pisgah Wildlife Fish Hatchery. It should be wonderful being out in the fresh air again with your children. If you would like to join us, email me or return the slip on the permission form. Please read the information on the letter sent home about what your child should bring. I'm so excited!!
Last Friday we were visited by a storyteller (John Fowler), who enthralled his audience with his oral skills, use of music and body percussion to enliven his tales. Audience participation was sky high, we laughed a lot! It was such an enriching experience, and yet another reason why Claxton is an outstanding school of the arts! I will be bringing my fiddle in this week to introduce the kids to "Old Joe Clark", and line dancing! I've been inspired by the LEAF festival, just like our 5th Graders! Mr. Butler arranges a LEAF residency each year, and some of our 5th Grade students perform at the festival. Another wonderful opportunity for Claxtonites!
