Birth - 1 year

1-2 Months
  • 1 month: Lifts chin when placed on stomach
  • 2 month: Lifts chest well above surface when placed on stomach

3-4 Months

  • Holds up head up steadily
  • Reaches for objects, but unsteadily
  • Rolls from side to back and from back to side

5-6 Months

  • Sits alone briefly
  • Uses hands to reach, grasp, crumble, bang, and splash
  • Turns completely over when laid on back or stomach

7-8 Months

  • Sits up steadily
  • Picks up large objects
  • Propels self by arms, knees, or squirming motion

9-10 Months

  • Reaches for and manipulates objects, including medium-sized ones, with good control
  • Crawls on hands and knees

11-12 Months

  • Shows preference for one hand over the other
  • Fits blocks, boxes, or nesting toys inside each other
  • Stands alone
