Superintendent's Update
March 15, 2020
Cecil County Families,
We are in unprecedented times that require action on the part of Cecil County Public Schools. We have been ordered to close our schools for at least the next two weeks and I predict that the closings could easily be longer, but that is just speculation. This afternoon, with the support of our Board of Education, I directed the following:
1. All staff work from home beginning tomorrow with an exception for cleaning personnel and those required to perform other essential functions.
2. Schools will be closed with information signs posted on all front doors that will provide phone and email contact information for community members who have a pressing need.
3. An email account has been set up for community use as the situation develops. Coronavirusquestions@ccps.org will be monitored and directed to the person best equipped to respond.
Our goal is to provide families with all information as soon as it is provided to us. Finally, most of the major questions moving forward surround the calendar in terms of potential make-up days etc. At this point in time, I believe this guidance will likely come from the Maryland State Department of Education. Once it has been determined, you will be immediately informed. Moving forward, my broad goal will be that no student, family, nor employee will be harmed in any policy decision as it relates to attendance, calendar changes, or academic grading.
We are all fortunate to be part of such a warm and caring community and we’ve been blown away by the level of support that’s been shared by so many. Whether it’s offering to support students receiving meals or general gestures of well-wishes, I can’t thank you all enough!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson
